I really enjoy Exhorder's merciless, straight to the point, riff barrage style of thrash metal. A fav thrash band. This one has very high points, but is overall not executed as well as its predecessor. The prod is a bit less aggressive, and the vocals feel a bit less good. Tracks like 1, 5, and 7 (except its last third which is jammy as hell) feel like they don't quite work. 2, 4, and the intro of 8 are jams. 4 in particular is interesting, really technical sounding, with lovely slap bass but a slightly annoying funky guitar riff which is the only thing bringing the track down. Amidst the constant and excellent riffing, this one also has more wankery bits - eg the rest of 8, 9 which even has a sorta breakdown to it, or the wankery mosh machine that is 6. Overall still a 3.7

Despite Chris Nail saying it's his favorite, it's got flaws like much other groove metal
albums (pointless chugs and some of Kyles shouts are kinda grating).rHowever, fuck if
I've ever heard drumming and riffworks this good in this style. Not even Coroner's
drummer sounded this good in this style.rSome funky bass here too.
It's honestly one of a few groove metal albums I've ever liked.
rSlaughter in the Vatican is still better.

Groove, Thrash, and dare I say a bit of Grindcore? Hell yeah! Don't look for melody on this album, but if you listen to this as a full album you WILL feel the metal and appreciate the endless waves of riffs.

Their debut is definitely better, nevertheless "The Law" remains a very solid release.

Some nice thrashy riffs and grooves, but the overtone-heavy guitar tone just kills it for me. At first I thought it was brutal and interesting. But it just gets annoying after a while. You can barely hear the fundemental notes most of the time under the mass of high pitched fuzz. Its almost like some just turned all the lows and mids right down in the final mix as a joke.

Now this is Groove metal done the right way. Much more extreme than pantera, and much faster. (although pantera still isnt bad). Some of the songs arent groove at all, and are instead full-thrash. Plus the Black Sabbath cover is badass.

On AMG, the reviewer said that Exhorder improved greatly with their follow up from Slaughter in the Vatican, being this album. Any of you believe that at all?
