Watching From A Distance is a battle. Not one of those alien invasion, all-humanity-is-lost bull***s with special effects, but a battle for inner peace, for hope of a future not shadowed by suffering and losing souls. At the top of the mountain, descent, destruction, change, creation. Watching From A Distance is like watching a life struggle uphill, and in the very end turning that hill into its bitch. The pulse of grieving Patrick Walker's strained, ***-it, mesmerizing vocal performance permeates through this dark adventure, like a voice of truth. This definitely is one of your classic doom-metal albums - rife with slow, muddy riffs that plummet and cause a general feeling of despair. But what is also and most importantly is an album that towers and explodes and engulfs yet has the uplifting hope of redemption: a soldier granted violent revenge on an enemy who has killed his closest comrade. The album is life.

Watching From a Distance paints a blurry picture of sadness, creepiness, gloominess, and depression all in one; it succeeds rightfully. If I could tell you how much emotion and power was put onto this, it wouldn't be enough. This album is definitely a doom essential and a perfect album to listen to during the night.

Doom Metal is all about creating a depressing, scary, absorbing, and painfull atmosphere that will drug you completely. That's why Warning's second album is a milestone. End of story.

Patrick Walker was really depressed when he wrote this (heart broken). The vocal dynamics are interesting and we find some cool doom riffs here but also some monotonous moments. Still cool.

i've listened to this album more times than i can count and each time i hear something new or feel an emotion i hadn't felt listening to it before. an underground doom metal classic, patrick walker is brilliant and this is his best work to date

The honesty is immense, the sadness drips forth like water from crack in a rotting sewer staining soil...honestly, I was taken completely aback by this album, because my expectations were high, and this absolutely crushed them. It exceeds with flying colors, or should I say gray colors, by utilizing the power that grief can have when it's portrayed for what it is or can be. Grief that brought me nearly to tears.

This album is probably the best Doom I've ever heard in my lifetime. There's so much Power and Emotion put into this release. This album really makes me think for a minute and I strongly recommend this to anyone.

Alright, during the weekend I re-listened to "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" and I give it the best doom album of all times.rBUT to be fair, I have 24 years of listens of that album over "Watching from a distance".rI think I'll wait a bit before I give "WFAD" its final rating.rSo far it's at least a 4.rMy more than 3 word review so far:rPROS:rCrushingly slow/heavy, moves like molasses, sets a tone, a mindnumbing depressive tone. rVocals are extremely emotional and clean. Lyrics are good too.rIf "Epicus" is a DOOM album, "WFAD" is a DOOOOOOOOOM album.rIf whales could vote for this, it'd definitely be their anthem.rCONS:rIt takes many listens to discern the songs from each other. The SUUUUUUPER slow pace definitely attributes to that.rNo solos? WTH? Other than the catastrophic "St. Anger" I don't remember an album without solos. Epicus has great solos but it is a lot faster paced too. rNo Bass? Dayum, if I wrote an album with music this sloooow and HEAVY, I'd rip the shit out of the bass. I'm talking INFRABASS. Record it on DVD so I can blast you with a 5Hz "house davastation" soundwave. rDrums are nice but "crashy". Hard to fault the drummer though. It's really hard to set a rhythm when the pace is sooooo slow.rI know the cons outweigh the pros but I do really like it...r
