As Inside Wants Out was released prior to Mayer's first true album, Room for Squares, it contains
many of the same tracks that appear on that album as well. However, it's evident this EP was
definitely a prototype as most of the tracks that appear here are perfected on Room for Squares.
Compared to the finalized RfS versions, the versions that appear on this EP are much slower,
sleepier, and less engaging.
With that said, there are a few tracks that don't appear on any of his later albums, and with the
exception of "Love Soon," which is somewhat dull, all of them are pretty great songs. What most
likely makes them stand out positively for me is that Mayer never recorded other versions of them,
so there's nothing else to compare them to.
