0.0 | Pon EMERITUS | February 11th 17 | The cancer that ravages the bodies of the weak from the inside. The sheets in the hospitals that can't wash out the death of the thousand hosts they've harnessed. The ruination of nations. The sepulchral monuments to which the bodies lay buried. The rituals of sacrifice. The cults of lives stolen. The genocides of peoples. The dolmens of the ancient, unheard of and enigmatic lost peoples who had succumbed to life's inevitability before our time. The confrontation of everything that has and will be drawn to an end. The breath of life given to dead bones--the learnings from those passed and the monolith of their impression. The silence, the cacophony, the burial, the pyramids, the temples, the sky and watered earth, the petrichor that rises from old graves. The nails and hair that grow long after the flesh has decayed. This is death metal. This is Death. mortui vivos docent

3.5 great | Alabaster Jones | February 14th 17 | It's interesting that a topic as unnerving as the real world and an occultish one seeping into each other is expressed in a very calm and ultimately quite beautiful way, but it seems like you can always count on some strange musical ideas from this project. Black Lagoon: The Ritual Of Reality is nothing if not cohesive; the influences of neofolk, post-rock, and tribal ambient all mesh with each other quite easily and the engrossing, ghostlike atmosphere of the album is never once shattered by superfluous genre-hopping or useless "experimentation". A couple of tracks are pretty, but kind of just there, and one overstays it's welcome a bit, but when you have songs like "The Deepest Deep Red Waters", "Glass End Sacrifice", and "Hevurah (Reprise)", you can afford that. Clearly, a lot of time and careful planning went into this one, and though it may not be Lost Salt Blood Purges' best work, it is definitely still a worthwhile listen and is one of the better experimental albums the young year has to offer so far.
