Introductory piece 'Waking Up' is a pretty good indicator of Bonito Graduation's approach
rit seems. Within the first two minutes, I was assaulted by an obnoxious blob of brassy, sugary
relectronica, awkwardly mundane lyrics sung with a noticeably London accent and bizarre Japanese
rrapping - drowned with a weird vocoder-esque effect I might add. The second track, a twinklier,
rcutesier number, was ruined within seconds by its total lack of discernible charisma. From here,
I rgot desperate. I began clicking from song to song, jumping to random parts of each, relistening
to rparts to see if I missed something. Was there anything redeemable? Basically, no. Bonito
rGeneration feels like a London/Japanese take on old-style Rebecca Black, a vile attempt at
combining Kyary Pamyu Pamyu style quirky pop with London pop's typically sincere sensibilities. If
I want to listen to something fun, carefree and sweet, I'll listen to Yanagi Nagi, or Aqua, or
I'll watch In The Night Garden until my eyes and ears bleed from saccharine overdose.
EDIT: okay in hindsight I can now appreciate the bit, but damn this is still awful

This album is the source of 90% of my serotonin these days. Hidden behind the kiddie aesthetic of the sound and lyrics are some real nostalgic emotions. When I finally finish this degree that is killing me, I'm going to blast Graduation on repeat for the entire day.

The most sugary sweet album I've heard in awhile. This unique pop record offers up "slice of life" jams that scream "CUTE!" but for some reason they feel a little sad and bittersweet. It feels like a maturing process. What's the next stage of life going to be like? KKB is here to help us get back up again when life knocks us down.
