2.5 average | JesusCage | February 15th 17 | An average album, not terrible but with nothing memorable.. it's a shame after Here and Nowhere
Else.

2.0 poor | NickLizard49 | January 26th 17 | There's not a single memorable track in it.
It sounds like a boring album from the first
half of the 90s, but at least at the time it
would have been vaguely innovative. Every
track seems the dullest track you've ever
heard, until it comes the next. At some point
you start thinking that there's no limit to
dullness. The title should be "sound whithout
life".

3.0 good | Xenorazr | April 5th 17 | For an album called "Life Without Sound," this sure comes across like an album more concerned with how it sounds, rather than how it should feel. Many welcome ingredients are present, but what this album sorely lacks is a tangible soul.

3.0 good | TheManMachine | February 18th 17 | Seems unfair in a way to complain and claim it as tame -- overall it's a successful softening of their acerbity and an angst-punk maturation that doesn't forsake their roots or mope too much in Cheeseville. But alas, tame it does feel: oft enjoyable as it is, it also comes off a bit flat-n-formulaic; tuneful and snarly as they can be, they've done both better on projects more ambitious+arresting.

3.0 good | Alabaster Jones | January 31st 17 | This isn't a direction I wanted Cloud Nothings to go, but I'm sure it's made plenty of people happy. This is, more or less, a watered down version of much better material like Attack On Memory, and it speaks to how good that past material was that Life Without Sound still manages to be a decent outing. There are some nice moments here, like the infectious opener "Up To The Surface", the all-around triumph that is "Modern Act", and the explosive climax of closer "Realize My Fate". Still, everything seems more flat and uninvolved this time around, and though those aforementioned high points are pretty great, plenty of the album feels like filler. Vocalist Dylan Baldi runs the show here, and he performs very admirably as the driving force behind the music, but his bandmates are just sort of "there" more than anything else. It's a decent album, no doubt, but it's not up to the quality that the band usually purveys, and as such is a bit of a disappointment.

4.5 superb | PapyrIsGood | January 27th 17 | This album is immediately engaging and catchy, doesn't need to "grow on you"... I love it as much as the last two albums.
