3.5 great | dihstyle69 | August 27th 16 | this is exactly the same shit we been
listening from him for a while now. only this
time, better. nothing has really changed, just
the quality of the overall tracks. some
tracks like pick up the phone and wycleaf
jean are defin dope but still, i hope he
creates something more original next time. it
worked this time around, might not work next
time, much like his last projects. 3.5-

0.0 | Jeffery J. Bigglestein | June 28th 20 | Thug delivers big with a fun, hard hitting project. Thugger respectfully pays tribute to various artists in the game without coming off as a cheap bootleg or bad impersonation. No, it's not a lyrical or thematic masterpiece, but it isn't meant to be.

4.5 superb | Skiiddz | October 13th 22 | i really wanted to not like this at first, but the beats and young thugs very creative use of autotune and a stellar vibe and flow make it a must listen for any fan of modern hip hop.

3.8 excellent | Erwann S. STAFF | March 2nd 22 | Thus far in his discog, this is his best work. Not that this is Thuggy reinventing himself, it's just that: this contains some of his best songs, these songs are diverse enough to each have their own specific vibe, the features are actually worthwhile, and Thugger's vocal delivery is as elastic as a luxury good's demand.

3.5 great | charlopiano | July 16th 21 | If there is a genre that I have a lot of difficulty getting into, it's trap. So, as an album that's considered top tier trap, I was doubtful, but I ended up enjoying it. Thugger's great vocals coupled with that booming bass really worked for me. It's not masterpiece by any means, but it was surprisingly good.

3.0 good | cjbizzlebizzle | November 28th 16 | JEFFERY is another good effort from Young Thug that incorporates all sorts of fresh style and a wealth of different producers which leads to his most sonically diverse record to date. Each song feels like a whole new experience and this writing approach is perhaps the strongest aspect of the album as a whole. Young Thug covers so much ground in 10 tracks. Despite that obvious strength, the album as a whole lacks the masterful hooks that his previous albums have had and the beats just don't hit has hard; they feel somewhat muddled and washed out at times. Young Thug took a more serious approach here and it feels like that is to his detriment as some of his wild personality is lost and the lyrics just don't ingrain themselves in the listener's head as on Barter 6 or Slime Season 3. If Young Thug could find some sort of middle ground between this approach and those used on the last few mixtapes it would yield something truly amazing. Most of the tracks are good but it is hard to really pick one that shines above the rest.

4.0 excellent | Alabaster Jones | November 14th 16 | A man who is at once a unique and charismatic artist in the ever-diverse and constantly shifting landscape of hip-hop and a scapegoat for those who believe the genre is dead or dying (read: idiots), Thugga is no stranger to controversy. An ear for great production, an endless bevy of flows, and a tongue-in-cheek attitude is what makes the man great, and it's because he's allowed to do all of these things as strange and constant as he pleases that JEFFERY is a winner. While it does stand to note that it's not entirely all that different from past projects, the unshakably high quality with which nearly all of these songs exhibit puts this tape up there near his best. He just sounds so comfortable doing what he does here, and not in a stagnant or lethargic way either. Say what you will about the ridiculousness of the lyrics, but if you're taking them seriously, you're doing it wrong. Point is, JEFFERY is Young Thug doing Young Thug completely unabashedly. Your mileage may vary on what that entails.

4.0 excellent | TheManMachine | October 22nd 16 | A gem in Thugger's cluttered discography fo sho, for the vivacious versatility if nothing else -- not just in his everlastingly elastic flows, but the ability to tote stylistic identities and a bag-o-tricks that are as colorful as his song-titled idols. We see him rockin' reggae on "Wyclef Jean", rapid-fire-spitting during the enhanced-Future impersonation of "Future Swag", breaking out the earnest creaks+pleads for "RiRi", going all choked-up gorilla on "Harambe", pursuing pop-man possibilities harder than ever alongside Idol #1 for the fascinating finale "Kanye West". It's the kind of artistic turning point that further cements the chance of "Jeffery" making it onto a few deity lists.

3.5 great | 2453 | August 30th 16 | I love how his delivery on Harambe so unpredictably slithers into and out of emulating various apelike sounds and even some Dancehall Riddim in the second verse. But what virtuosity Thuggers got in the voice department, he as always, lacks in terms of songwriting. So YT on extremely well executed Pop-Trap beats is still something of a mixed bag: At times he leaves the listener in awe of his obvious talent and at different times the tracks aimlessly drag on too long for their own good.
