Understand people's aversion to this record, but can't help but feel it's fine. It's definitely not anything like the peak of her other records, it's not touching on politically important things as she used to, and the sound's a lot more pop-friendly and safe. But, it's also fine at what it's doing. A.M.P. is extremely dope and has those old M.I.A.-isms, not many other tracks stand out but I don't hate this at all. Unfortunately the weakest of her discography most likely, the most generic; but bad? Nah. It exists between average and bland but doesn't quite push itself too deep into either of those for it to be worth much discussion.

MIA's great albums were chock full of creative beats, catchy yet serious lyrics, a fun atmosphere and an infections sense of style that you could not find anywhere else. With AIM it seems that most of those good traits are wearing away and the album drags on despite not really being that long; it comes off as tired and lost. MIA, at her best, found an amazing line between club hit and socially aware. AIM is shifted towards the latter and has basically lost all of the former. Many of the tracks feel like they were forced, rushed or both. MIA just doesn't stand out here and the musical intricacies and unique creative drive of the past are seemingly gone.

M.I.A is one of my favorite artists of this millennium. Even as her lyrical content and the relative strength of the ideology that informs her music shown some cracks on her past couple records, she, to me, always manages to be uniquely compelling. Unfortunately, the problem with AIM is that a lot of it is bland and frankly, boring, which illuminates these other faults even more. Luckily, her charisma and beat selection saves the record from being a complete disaster.

Dammit. M.I.A took a nosedive in quality so much faster than I expected. I like All My People, and there one or two other tracks on here that don't get as stale as the others. But it's so painfully /boring/. I can't stand songs like Borders or Survivor or Ali r u ok?. I even took listen to her previous two albums, to make sure she wasn't always like this and I'm just listening to it differently now.
I'm not. MAYA was good, Matangi was great, this is crap.

everything that made m.i.a.'s first couple of albums so good is nowhere to be found here in this album. pretty much all the tracks feel mundane and bland considering she used to have a really creative mind and while she has almost always something to say, things never really go beyond the surface. another huge 2k16 disappointment. 2

So disappointed that this is her last. It seems that she's run out of ideas, and her self-referential shtick has gotten way out of hand. Most of these are average pop tracks without any of the rhythmic ingenuity of her previous albums. I'm sad that this will be her last, which I didn't know until a few minutes ago, but I can't say that she made the wrong decision.
