I was expecting a stronger and more inspired release. Some good old-school riffs, as expected, but nothing out of the ordinary. It's their worst album since The Gathering.

Apparently this album was a rushed pain in the ass to write; you couldn’t tell by listening to it. Brotherhood of the Snake is easily Testament’s best release since reforming the classic team on The Formation of Damnation. What really sets it up is the diversity that is present. If there is a quintessential album that blends just about everything Testament has done into one release, this is it. I hear The Legacy, The Gathering, Practice What You Preach, Souls of Black, Low, Demonic, and even some occasional black metal influence from Eric’s Dragonlord side project. It’s also good from beginning to end, which wasn’t the case on their last album. The only influences lacking from this album are The Ritual and any kind of power ballad.

Borderline perfect modern thrash record. BOTS takes the accessibility and catchiness from "The Ritual" and blends it with the relentless aggression of "The Gathering" to create a modern thrash classic. Every aspect of what makes Testament great is on full display here, and it's absolutely glorious.

Overall not as good as Dark Roots of Earth, but it really brings the speed in greater doses, which is much appreciated. Nowadays Testament love to play midpaced thrash, and they're great at that, but they're at their best when they're thrashing at full velocity.

Out of all the recent Testament offerings, this one feels the most confident. It's true to the band's roots and goes big in a way that makes them feel more mature and timeless than their contemporaries. A damn fine offering.

Definitely more varied than their more recent work, and ESPECIALLY more varied than 'Dark Roots of the Earth', AKA 'Ballads: The Album', 'Brotherhood of the Snake' finds Testament assembling concepts and song structures from all across their discography, while pushing out some new aspects as well. While the band stumbles occasionally and the production feels a bit too plastic, this is still a solid album, and a nice addition to an already impressive catalog. Good to see the death metal passages return as well.
