On an individual basis, the vast majority of tracks on this record are quite good. Allegaeon execute their brand of TDM/MDM to the T on almost every song, with solid performances from every member. Greggoroth doesn't hit a note out of place, Brandon Park's breakneck pace never stumbles, and McShane's rasps and growls do a pretty solid job of living up to Ezra Haynes. rThe album is musically compact and sound, and that's perhaps its downfall. For as much as Allegaeon does their best to incorporate some diverse sonic elements here, such as the flamenco motif that pops up on a few songs or the orchestral openings, the record tends to overstay its welcome. I would have preferred a bit of the fat trimmed away here, because it's certainly easy to get lost amidst the almost-formulaic song structures. I won't expand further here, but this is a solid album that just stays for a little too long.

While this is certainly a good album, it is hard not to be a bit disappointed by it. Allegaeon is clearly a talented band, shown through their genius flashes of technicality and melody; however this fact brings upon disappointment when much of this album is quite mediocre. The title track for example, the last part is the only worthwhile one, while the first two do nothing other than artificially lengthen the already good length album. Hopefully they can fully get together and release something truly special in the future.

Allegeaon once again manages to write technical death metal songs that are actually catchy and don't get stuck in a morass of endless wankery. However, they can't write 72 minutes of compelling material. "The Extermination" is a perfect album closer. Unfortunately, it is followed by an OK Rush cover that should have been a bonus track. Removing "Subdivisions" and at least 1 other track would have made this a 4 or better.

Released the three best tracks on the album early to give the false idea that this album would be artistically varied and showcase technical prowess. The remaining tracks are still good, but the variety between tracks blur through out a 72-minute album. Disappointing release.
