| 0.0 | tresm87 | October 21st 16 | It builds off Paradigm Shift in beefier more substantial fashion. Tighter instrumentals and better written songs focusing on
their older signature sound from issues/untouchables/take a look in the mirror era. Jon Davis has not lost one bit of his
passionate vocal versatility. They are definitely back to their roots with this one. 4.2/5

| 3.5 great | Jared Floryan | October 21st 16 | Nobody understands my pain; no one can comprehend the idea of a 20-year-old biracial nimrod getting some mileage out of nu-metal. Another day rotting in vain, another day where I learn the concept of high quality rips. Ahem! In any case, Bakersfield, California-based quintet Korn (on the kob) have finally released their twelfth full-length album - and it's a fairly solid one at that. The Serenity of Suffering is a largely enjoyable record boasting intensity, fun, and the offering of course recalls a simpler time where we could yell "ARE YOU READY?" en masse and not get pelted by Megatron figures. Though some songs are clearly better than others, Korn's latest effort has good that outweighs any bad that can be sniffed out. The Serenity of Suffering is sound from an instrumental standpoint as well as acceptable regarding frontman Jonathan Davis' vocal performance. Oh, and the cover artwork done by Ron English is half-baked. Angel recommends: "Black Is the Soul," "The Hating," "Die Yet Another Night," and "When You're Not There".

| 4.0 excellent | cman23kid | October 20th 16 | Definitely their most improved album since the release of Follow The Leader/Issues. Black Is The
Soul, The Hating, and Insane are personal favorites. Can here the influences from Untouchables all
the way back to Self-Titled/Life is Peachy. Riffs are on point, drumming is super solid, bass holds
down the fort, and Davis' vocal ability from creating a creepy, atmospheric sound to brutal gutturals is
found all around on this record and really adds a punch. Really impressed and thrilled to see this band
still going 20+ years later.

| 1.0 awful | BeneaththeDarkOcean | February 7th 17 | I'd rather listen to the singles from Path of Totality than hear anything off of this again. Blandest album they've ever made.

| 4.0 excellent | cloakanddagger | October 20th 16 | Really solid album, I can hear a lot of Untouchables on this album but the songwriting is far more mature and the lyrics (whilst still far from perfect) are much improved. Black is the Soul may have the best Korn chorus of all time.

| 3.8 excellent | Trey STAFF | January 13th 23 | If your stance on Korn is one born of cynicism, then there’s probably nothing the band could do to win you over. Jonathan still wears his angsty feelings on his sleeve, and the core Korn sound is still very much present, but it is being done better than it has in nearly fifteen years. It seems the band have taken stock of their 20+ year career and selected the parts that would best work for them today and combined them with some newer ideas and fresh sounds. The result, to me, sounds like a natural evolution from their best release, Untouchables, with stronger songwriting and a significant increase in aggression. The Serenity of Suffering is easily Korn’s most diverse release; featuring melody, aggression, new sounds and old staples in just about equal measures wrapped into some of the band’s strongest songs in years.

| 4.0 excellent | davezillaMP3 | August 7th 20 | Korn returns to picking up where they left off right after 'untouchables' here, even the songs here that would qualify as filler like "the hating" and "Next in line" are really enjoyable. this is still one of my top albums of 2016. also Ray>David.

| 0.0 | thelamestallion | October 14th 18 | Back in 2016 I'd listened to this album thrice, during two months or so, and every single
time I'd caught a SARS (given that it's a rare "pleasure" for me). Coincidence? Yeah likely,
but somehow I ended up with a strong distaste for this album which I can't (and don't want
to) leave behind up until now.
The thing is that all Korn tries to do here is just to deliberately and passionlessly
manufacture their old riffs, melodies and compositional decisions, and when they try to
produce something new it always fucks up somehow, being just forgettable and forced.
Each time I listened to this album I couldn't help the feeling that I was being tricked.
I've got nothing against an artist staying true to his own style, BUT not when this artist
simply copy-pastes his own ideas from the past (right to a tee!). I think this is
disrespectful primarily to his fanbase: he treats them as consumers (in this case fairly
tho). It's no longer art (ok, in this case no surprises), it's even no longer mass art. It's
a service sector. And once again, no surprises, given that they've never been supposed to be
anything more (and given just how old these dudes are now), but all this hype behind such a
hollow album is just fucking ridiculous.

| 4.0 excellent | Risodo | February 16th 18 | "The Serenity of Suffering" is a breath of fresh air and a great relief to the band and its fans. Korn has bridged some existential crises and tried to get past Skrillex and all the forgettable things of music over the last few years. But unexpectedly, the album appears and shows that the they still knows how to be loyal to their style.

| 1.0 awful | Your Favorite Lurker | February 15th 17 | "this sounds like good old fashioned Korn". I mean yeah, hence why it's fucking awful
Bump |
| 3.5 great | BRAman22 | February 1st 17 | One of the better Korn albums in awhile. It has all the catchy hooks and crunchy riffs you'd expect from them, with some riffs inspired by non-nu-metal as well. Since it is Korn though, that also means that some of the lyrics are absolutely abysmal, but that can be overlooked.
Bump |
| 3.5 great | Antonius | January 10th 17 | I've never been Korn's greatest fan but I've enjoyed many of their songs during the years. Having heard a couple of albums after 'Head's' departure, I could not imagine that his contribution to this band was so massive. Now, two albums after his return I can be sure about it. The Serenity of Suffering represents Korn's return to the forefront: heavy riffing, immense growling and catchy choruses. This is what this band was always about and I'm satisfied when I hear them in such a sharp form. Recommendations: "Rotting In Vain", "Insane", "The Hating", "When You're Not There", "Die Yet Another Night"

| 5.0 classic | TP397 | December 13th 16 | I Think that this album has perfect sound. I mean it's very solid. I think it's Korn's best album since 2003's Take a Look in the Mirror.

| 2.5 average | dihstyle69 | November 2nd 16 | the band continues to do the same instrumental flaws that have been haunting them for years, but i can't deny that some of these tracks are at least catchy, unlike on thwir past 5 or 6 releases. it's an improvement, can't complain much. 2.5+

| 4.5 superb | eventheminions | October 30th 16 | Absolutely everything a 2016 Korn album should be.
Bump |
| 3.0 good | Britch2tiger | October 25th 16 | Probably their 3rd best album to their Issues record, but that's not what is my biggest disappointment. This is an album that COULD'VE been done AFTER their Issues effort, yet somehow remained unfathomed for more than 15 YEARS! Before the release of this album, they've had a whopping SEVEN records of trial and error before coming out with this... I probably would be less critical if this was an album released after a long period of inactivity, such as Failure or Gorguts, but this release is not one of those cases... You're better off listening to nu-metal acts w/ much better catalogues: System of a Down, Deftones, Janus, Downer, Karnivool (Themata), Mudvayne (LD 50), Nothingface, Boy Hits Car, and Unjust.
