1.5 very poor | Jared Floryan | September 24th 16 | Dogshit. Just a pile of crap which greatly undermines the potential this band's instrumentalists and singer Vicky Psarakis have. I didn't even have my expectations set high for this record and I was still let down by how uninspired, soulless, and unnecessary the whole album was. Gone is the Canadian music group who crafted Lullabies for the Dormant Mind and of course Prisoners; what remains now is The Agonist being a shell of their former selves, catering to trends and pretty much acting void of sympathy. Alissa White-Gluz must've taken the songwriting power with her the moment she departed. A terrible performance from an otherwise fine vocalist and tepid compositions come together to make up what may very well be one of the most laziest releases in 2016. Feels as if I enjoyed Eye of Providence more than most people did on the site, though there's no way in Hell one can excuse Five, which - by the by - doesn't warrant anything close to said rating. Flip this.

1.0 awful | Ebola | September 23rd 16 | This is a fucking atrocity; easily one of the worst albums of the year. The band responsible for Prisoners is dead and gone. The vocals, especially the gutturals, are horrendous, the instrumentation is uninspired and amateurish, the bass is nonexistent, and the songwriting is bland and insipid.

3.0 good | Alien Six | October 28th 16 | I'm surprised to see so much negativity towards this album. It's certainly their weakest album, but it is far from bad. Any fan of theirs should find enough to enjoy. It could have benefited from cutting 3 or 4 tracks that honestly sound like B-sides.rI see a lot of complaints about Vicky's vocals. She's definitely playing things a bit looser and rougher with her harsh vocals, but I think that's deliberate. It doesn't always work, but I don't think she ever actually fails. Her cleans are spectacular, though. On the last album I felt like she was trying to do her best impression of Alissa (and nailing it), which I can understand given the fact that she was plucked from obscurity and was suddenly fronting a band (something she had never done before). I think this is her being more of herself, which might need a little more work or time to get used to.rSome of the biggest problems with the album are technical. I don't know what they were going for, but the mix doesn't sound as clear as their previous two albums. If anything this sounds closer to the mix on their first album.rI may write a full review of the album seeing as I seem to have a different opinion of it than most people rating here.

1.0 awful | DesertUrbania | October 3rd 16 | I've been with this band for close to a decade. Prisoners and Lullabies for the
Dormant Mind remain their standout releases, with Eye of Providence paling in comparison. Still,
that album was listenable. Five? Not so much.
The vocals are poorly produced and it feels as though Vicky has regressed. Her clean vocals,
while still her main strength, baffle me in terms of the melodies and the ranges that she chooses
to use on some of these songs. Her YouTube covers are great (well, except for the travesty of
Thank You Pain), and are in fact, far more powerful than any of the vocals she lays out on either of
the albums she's featured on.
The lyrics are a shadow of what they used to be, and the vocal melodies are either so generic or
so out of place that you feel as though the song was slapped together at the last minute. It's
understandable, or at least predictable because their former vocalist, Alissa White-Gluz wrote all
of their old lyrics and all of their old vocal melodies. This does not however, excuse the
ridiculously uninspired feel of the instruments on this album. Eye of Providence at the very least
retained some of the great instrumentation, but apparently the guys decided to fuck everything
and tone it down on Five.
All-in-all, this is one of the most disappointing and mediocre albums I've heard from an
established band. Given all the pomp and circumstance they brought out to hype it up, they
should be ashamed of this product.
