Produced with instrumental balance and flair, Against Me!'s seventh LP is centered around the destructive nature of relationships and all the regret that comes with said stories, and Laura Jean Grace treats these themes with emotional potency and brutal honesty. The music itself is exciting and straightforward, Grace's performance as stunning as ever, and the set both diverse and consistent. I do not know what we could want from them at this point of their career which is not in this record. A really impressive rock album.

Lacks more backing vocals by James. Too much bullshit experimentalism. "Rebecca" is the best song here.

Surprised by the overwhelmingly negative reaction here. To me this is strong and varied set of songs with interesting production choices. Not a masterpiece by any means, but not a faceplant either.

Meh. I also didn't like Transgender Dysphoria. Laura Grace is slowly losing her songwriting skills. It's not terrible, just very unmemorable.

band has an output that is consistently fun and engaging, this album keeps that going strong w/ an eclectic mix of against me!'s sound. highlights are "boyfriend," "dead rats," and "norse truth."

Currently on the fence with this, although it does get better with repeat listens. It's much more
eclectic than 'Transgender...' which is a plus, but it lacks the cohesion. Starts off fairly well,
hits its peak around the middle, then takes a massive nose dive at the end with the last two
songs. Highlights: the last two singles ("333" was a bad choice), "Dead Rats", and "Delicate,
Petite..."

It's a fine follow-up to TDB, there are some interesting and adventurous (in AM! terms at least) songwriting ideas on here, but little of those experiments do overstay their welcome in any way. I'm not disappointed.
