| 4.0 excellent | danielito19 | February 22nd 15 | This is quite possibly the best Venetian Snares album. After Rossz, Meathole seemed like a regression into Aaron Funk's tired breakcore madness. Cavalcade was another straightforward release, but with more palpable melody - still, nowhere near the heights reached with Rossz. My Downfall(Original Soundtrack) finally capitalizes on the ideas laid out in Rossz, perfecting and tweaking every detail. The one weakness of Funk's breakthrough release is that the breakcore elements (while far less omnipresent than on his other material) still tended to overpower the classical sampling. Here, Funk has pushed the nine-dimensional machine gun Amen breakbeats to the background and focused primarily on melodic composition. Only four tracks could arguably be labeled breakcore, with the rest of the album displaying beautiful classical composition. Where the appeal of Rossz lies in the perceived sacrilege of slapping crazy breaks on intense classical sections, My Downfall approaches the fusion of artificial and natural in a much more controlled and calculated way. Standout track "Integraation" showcases a cello slowly bitcrushed into a digital synth, while the other breakcore tracks are much more restrained than on Rossz. Ultimately, restraint is what really propels this album forward; the rejection of traditional in-your-face break beats in favor of showcasing classical composition produced some incredibly beautiful and moving pieces, like "I'm Sorry I Failed You," and my personal favorite off of this album, "If I Could Say I Love You."

| 4.0 excellent | Dissonant | August 2nd 17 | Two steps away from a classic for me. This album is surprisingly emotional, deep, and deeply atmospheric for a musician who has released some of the most psychotic, outrageous breakcore music in the past. Surprisingly, it meshes well.....too well, so much that I would argue that some of his best material in all of his discography is located on this album. This is not to say he throws in the towel altogether with his trademark breakcore, 'Integraation' and parts of 'My Crutch' contain those frantic beats, but as a whole, he shifts almost entirely away from chaos and focuses his attention on classical music. Makes for a very powerful journey overall.

| 0.0 | Mookid | October 23rd 13 | I've never been the biggest Venetian Snares fan, but this album is a major exception. I've always been rather turned off by his viscerally harsh drum machine and spastic, frantic melodies, but upon listening to this album I soon realized that it is nothing like this whatsoever. What we have here is an absolutely gorgeous album with prominent classical influences; most of the material here is rather easy-on-the-ears and not so harsh and practically unlistenable as some of his other albums have been. Although this album does in fact include ridiculous breakbeats, they are intertwined with violins and strings, yielding this to be a rather smoother listen. Definitely a great album by the man, very emotional but at the same time harsh; would recommend this to anyone
