4.0 excellent | Zack Lorenzen CONTRIBUTOR | October 5th 16 | Don't look for ambitious compositions or flashy musicianship here; American Band's biggest charm is in Cooley and Hood's ruminations on a bleak, divided America and the boldness to let those thoughts stand front and center. It's none the worse for it.

3.5 great | cjbizzlebizzle | January 24th 17 | An even mix of Alt-Country and Southern Rock with a heavy dose of political themes. Drive-By Truckers approach some of the more uncomfortable issues in America with grace and precision getting their messages across while still delivering well written music. Most of the album is mid to up tempo leaning more into the Southern rock realm but Drive-By Truckers do well on the more emotional, down-tempo tracks like Sun Don't Shine and Ever South too. What It Means is a stand out track telling the story of Treyvon Martin and bluntly dealing race relations in America but many of the other songs are beyond worth a listen.
