Not as Immediate as some of the other Acts like Act IV, but patience and dissecting over time will show to be very well worth it as Act V comes with a great "finish" to a story with catchy and meaningful rhythms intact. Don't try to choke it down in one sitting, just let the tone take you to a different place and enjoy.

I though the fourth act was one of the best album they could achieve ... Act V is one step further in every possible aspect. So much creativity in one masterpiece I can't wait to listen to the conclusion !!

This definitely took at least ten listens to let it fully sink in. It's really brilliant. The storytelling, orchestration, and flow from song to song all work so well. My favorite songs are The Moon/Awake, Melpomine, Gloria, and The Haves Have Naught.

Not as immediately engaging as Act IV, but it's just as full in its sound, and is every bit grand in its scope. From the narrative told, to the music, there's a sense of climax as it's all pushed forward. As the "final 'rock' record in the Act series" (whatever that may mean) Casey and company go out with a bang.

felt a bit long but many parts were enjoyable enough to "overrate" itrmaybe it's just juxtaposition and softer things just appeal to me because i rarely listen to things like that

I said that Act II was the best musically, that Act III was the best lyrically and that Act IV was the best scenaristically and Act V blows every single previous records out of the water. The production is immaculate, the story is at its most interesting, I strongly believe that A Beginning is the best Dear Hunter song of all time. It's just perfect. This album's amazing. It'S the best in the series, although I feel like I slightly prefer Act II, but that's just me.

Act V, the closer to The Dear Hunter's Act series, is a beautiful album. Their signature orchestration gives the album plenty of variety. There's heavier cuts like "The Moon / Awake", and slow burners like album closer "A Beginning", both of which are album highlights. Other interesting turns include "Mr. Usher (On His Way to Town)", which is a showtune-inspired track. While the runtime of this coda is very long, it's fitting in terms of the mood of the album. Act V is filled to the brim with colourful, quality songs, and it's one of the best albums of 2016.
