4.0 excellent | Snide | October 5th 16 | Instead of Sowing leaving us, Yellowcard left us.

5.0 classic | 3waycrash | September 30th 16 | It's hard to express in only a few words how important Yellowcard have been in my life, and how much this album means to me. Suffice it to say, this is as good of a final record as I could have hoped for. As a self-titled and final album, "Yellowcard" is a definitive statement for everything the band has stood for throughout these years. Themes of heartbreak, grief in losing a loved one, pain in past failures and regrets, letting go and moving on, hope in brighter futures, staying strong, and more are all prevalent. Yellowcard have always been able to convey a sense of relatability through their music, and this is no exception. Musically it strays from the band's more pop punk roots, but it feels confident in its sound and direction. It sounds and feels like the album that they wanted to make. "Yellowcard" has a sense of finality and closure, and while it's bittersweet, it's a satisfying last chapter in their book. This album won't likely change people's opinions on them, but for longtime fans this is a fitting and pleasing close for the band. I don't care what the naysayers say; this album was never meant for them anyway. "Yellowcard" is the perfect swan song to cap off Yellowcard's career.

4.5 superb | pbass0 | March 22nd 19 | This album continues to grow and grow on me. Yellowcard will be so missed, but this one has some staying power. The lyrical content is and will always be relevant. This is a proper breakup album.

4.0 excellent | Lucman | August 6th 18 | A beautifully emotional sendoff to one of the most consistently amazing bands to ever come out of the pop/punk scene. Long live Yellowcard. Thanks for the memories.

2.0 poor | EasterInTheBatcave | December 15th 16 | Yellowcard's so-called final record is a sleek, pop rock affair. Gone are all niggling traces of 'punk'; this is a ballad-heavy, somewhat weepy record, but endearing and heartfelt all the same. Namely, "A Place We Set Afire" is one of the band's best songs, up there with the likes of "Way Away" and "A Vicious Kind". Unfortunately, the rest of the record is a little bland; for the most part, the upbeat songs aren't as catchy or interesting as the band's finest work, and Ryan & co. misfire with the oversaturation of ballads.

3.0 good | tellah | December 15th 16 | Yellowcard's self-titled coda is definitely a good album for them to go out on. The great production job here makes everything crystal clear, and also gives the music (and the listener) space to breathe. "Leave A Light On" is the token heartfelt cut that has a way bigger impact than almost anything from Lift a Sail. There's solid variation, like the neat clean guitar riff in "The Hurt is Gone", and the trippy ending in "Empty Spaces". Especially for fans of their heavier material, parts of this album can feel a bit boring as Yellowcard is definitely one of their more ballad-heavy releases. Still, it's one of their better albums and it's clear that what we have here is a love letter and a goodbye to their fans.

3.3 great | Trey STAFF | October 1st 16 | It starts out pretty great, with the second song being one of my favorites from this band, but it feels like the second half is just back-to-back-to-back ballads. Not a bad album to end their career with, though.
