Epica has managed to release another strong album . Whether it's the bombastic symphonic element or the heavy and dense guitar riffs , Epica has set the bars pretty high with this marvelous and astonishing album .

What will ultimately decide whether you like The Holographic Principle is whether or not you like over-the-top bombast or not. Personally, I’m kind of a fan of lack-of-substance bombast… it’s a guilty pleasure. Besides, Epica are easily the best of the symphonic metal bunch. They aren’t cheesy (very often), they know how to play their instruments (in symphonic metal that’s actually an issue), their songs are pretty damn riffy, they have great death growls and female vocals… and Simone Simons is hot.

Maximalist bullshit like their past four albums. It is bombastic for the sake of it with little
good songwriting to back it up and awful pseudo-intellectual lyrics. This album is so over the top
that I can't even take it seriously. I want metal, not the Inception trailer. The only reason this
album is better than their past three is because you can at least have fun with it because it is
so ridiculous, kind of like how you can make St. Anger better by laughing at it. Yes, I actually
compared it to St. Anger. Also, this album is so overproduced it hurts.

It's good! But not even close to live up to ''The Quantum Enigma''

Somehow more of a show-off than The Quantum Enigma, yet also less glamorous. What's surprising is how the music remains thoroughly enjoyable, through the thick waves of cheesy, over-the-top themes. A lot more growling vocals than before this time too, reinforcing the edgier sound thanks to some great guitar riffs. Simone is also more noteworthy here than the last album, which is always a plus. Overall, this has the potential to be a grower, but even if it isn't, one could argue it actually trumps its glorious predecessor.
