4.5 superb | kingjulian | May 8th 16 | This is shockingly excellent, especially after TKOL, which had its moments but never felt like it had much life in it. Almost every song takes a turn at some point and evolves, which makes for a wonderfully dynamic Radiohead album - the likes of which we haven't heard since 2007. This is pure Radiohead, in the best way.

4.0 excellent | Philalethes | May 8th 16 | Is Radiohead playing a joke on the world? It sounds like they purposely tried to take a set of probably good
songs and arrange them in a way as to maximize the feelings of boredom and apathy. I feel about this music
how I feel about postmodern art; I can't tell if it was made by a two year old just messing around or an "artist"
trying to push some limits of what counts as art, effectively making the classification meaningless. I wish iTunes
had refunds.

4.5 superb | Ayashi | May 8th 16 | Jesus Christ. I was pleasantly surprised by the better sounding Burn The Witch, and Daydreaming also grew on me. And then EVERY FUCKING SONG started outdoing the previous one. I was not expecting that. It's good as shit.

4.5 superb | Benjamin Kuettel EMERITUS | May 9th 16 | Radiohead take another surprising direction by emphasizing Jonny Greenwood's sublime string arrangements. The band craft beautiful, spacey atmospheres and engaging compositions like "Present Tense," "Decks Dark," and "Daydreaming." Each song is memorable in its own right, be it the layered, midtempo indie rock song "The Numbers" or the anxious "Ful Stop" that ends with a propulsive guitar-centered outro similar to "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi." A Moon Shaped Pool recalls the warm, melancholic qualities of In Rainbows along with the colder, more elusive nature of The King of Limbs and Kid A, but this is very much its own incarnation. Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood are masters of their craft, always seeking new ways to explore and reinvent their sound. In the context of Radiohead's career thus far, A Moon Shaped Pool isn't their most experimental or challenging record. It's not simplistic, straightforward, or predictable either, but has an emotional core more open and fragile than what we're used to hearing. On top of that, there's an elegance to the songwriting and even if it's not as innovative as their past classics, A Moon Shaped Pool is always engrossing and Radiohead's most subtle offering yet. The band offer an immersive and spaced out journey with some of their most emotionally poignant moments to date.

4.0 excellent | Bedex | February 12th 20 | Yeah I don't know how this ever felt like a possible 5.0 to me, but it is still a gorgeous Radiohead album. I really enjoy the lush, ambient, deconstructed keys style of a good part of the album, but it doesn't always quite strike home. For starters I don't understand 1 as the opener, it stands out completely and either of the two following tracks (both jams) would have been much nicer and fitting openers imo. Still an ok fun track though. 4 is the first track that falls kinda flat but is well constructed, breaking the lushness of 2 and 3 with some acoustic guitar then slowly easing its way back into the keys. 5 is more electronic and hard hitting, which again shakes things up nicely and demonstrates their mastery of album craft, but only the second half is jammy. 6 is a sublimely delicate winter jam that demonstrates the style of AMSP perfectly executed. 7 is a bit more in classic Radiohead 'rock' style but remains merely ok, and 8 despite some lovely sounds also feels like it doesn't quite work. 9 is a jam and shows a lovely mix of their prior sound with the new twist taken on this record. Very nice. 10 is nice but just passes by before the godtier jam that is 11, a top tier Radiohead track that I think is solely responsible for making me think this could ever be a 5.0. Gorgeously hopeless and sad, with beautifully fragile vocal delivery and impactfully simple instrumental. Glorious. So yeah the album has huge jams but just alternates too many merely nice tracks in between to claim even the possibility of a 5. 4.15

4.0 excellent | EasterInTheBatcave | August 15th 16 | With time, this may become one of Radiohead's beloved upper pantheon. It's a grower, that much is clear; in the four months since its release my appreciation for it has only increased. It's a measured, melancholic record, featuring the phenomenal production and lyrics-- and cerebral songwriting-- expected of the band. It's at once tense and hopeful, a coiled mouse in a corner at sunrise, the impending Sol to soon reveal an absence of traps and a plethora of cheese cubes. It's an excellent record.

4.5 superb | joeyb1107 | November 6th 21 | I guess I can call this a most mature Radiohead. Such emotion runs through the entire album. I do miss the electricity of old Radiohead, but what they have matured to is what had to be expected to continue excellence into their 40-50s and beyond. I have grown up with Radiohead, and I find myself listening to In Rainbow, King of Limbs, and A heart Shaped Moon when I want to enjoy blissful sound, I can't pick another band to fill this gap. The older Radiohead is memorized, it is time to memorize the newer Radiohead and to look forward to what they want to create, to not wish they recreate the past, but to continue to carve out their legacy as the greatest band of our time.

3.4 great | Erwann S. STAFF | December 9th 19 | Subtle classic Radiohead. This clearly is one of the less innovative and, dare I say, "experimental" Radiohead record, but it's simply very well done. However, I still feel it's a tad too subdued for its own sake.

4.5 superb | olisz | November 7th 18 | Amazing how Radiohead still manages to pull off a masterpiece after all this time! Unlike most other bands in their twenties, they even expand on new ideas and thus are not losing their edge at all. For example I believe it's new for Thom Yorke to experiment with latin sounds like on the beautiful "Present Tense", which is probaply my favourite on this album. Also this album feels more intimate than usual, but that's not a bad thing with how it is realized here.

5.0 classic | Rodstar | January 2nd 17 | An album imbued with shades of sadness and pain that captured my heart and soul since it dropped in May, and probably my most played album in 10 years (I was on this thing 3 times per day minimum for at least a month before tapering off...). A band that has not lost their artistic edge but continues to refine their strengths and continually shake off any shackles that attempt to pigeonhole their sound and maintain pure artistic integrity.

3.5 great | TheManMachine | July 7th 16 | Delicate+divine+creeping+cryptic in a way only this band can do, an atmospheric+"rock band"+electronic+strings-n-piano commixture savviness few could claim -- in what tends to be procedure, the words wielded within Yorke's yakkin' aren't nearly as necessary as his fragile-gone-broken delivery in itself and the falsetto moanings/murmurs/mantras. And while a witch-wither opener teases at some semblance of liveliness, it's the frequently following subtleties and sorrow and textures that find 'em fertile as fuck; them getting their kraut on during "Ful Stop" perhaps being the kinda peppy still exceptional exception. Stunner of a soft soundscape it may be, it's also overall a bit too subdued+shadowy for its own good: but if a track like "Daydreaming" doesn't trap ya in its gloomy grasp, terminator "True Love Waits" is there a-waitin'.

4.0 excellent | Alabaster Jones | June 19th 16 | It's been quite some time since the famous British quintet of art-rockers known as Radiohead have released something as outright beautiful as this. And while it is certainly not their most experimental work, probably since OK Computer, the songwriting is still top-notch, as exemplified by the ethereal ambience of "Daydreaming", the subtle catchiness of "Decks Dark", the simple-yet-heartbreaking piano/string combo of "Glass Eyes", and of course the numerous and satisfying intricacies of the following four tracks. Closer "True Love Waits" is a little bare musically, but it's lyrics and the way they are sung are the saving graces. There's only a couple of tracks here that I'd venture to call uninteresting, those being opener "Burn The Witch" and "Desert Island Disk", both of which don't do anything with the little they have to begin with. It's not quite on the level of their classics, but I'd be lying if I said that A Moon Shaped Pool was not a wholly worthwhile affair.

4.0 excellent | Analogart | May 10th 16 | It's difficult for me to find anything I can really dislike or fault this record for. It has the standard by trade fantastic production that is highlighted by an atmospheric and string driven sound. Paired with a relaxed performance that is more mature and natural than TKOL. I like they have decided on a more docile direction, I think the more sparse intimate moments on their past few records have really shined.

4.0 excellent | davidwave4 | May 9th 16 | The second best album released this weekend, and a definite album of the year contender. Not as gripping a listen as any of their previous albums, but it's got a lot of good lyrics and instrumentation (especially orchestration). Sometimes it's a bit too pretty and I often miss the days when Radiohead would simply write a nice punchy rock song (like they did with In Rainbows), but I'm happy with what they produce here. "True Love Waits" is gutwrenching. Song of the Year for sure.
