5.0 classic | Nocturnalize | July 17th 16 | Easily the greatest death metal of all time. Every riff, blast, growl and bree is on point. This album is absolute perfection.

5.0 classic | HisBelovedMaker | July 16th 16 | OMG! - this was my exact reaction when I heard this album. This is exactly what extreme metal
lacks these days. I have no doubt that this will be considered a deathcore classic 10 years from
now, just like The Ills Of Modern Man. Could this be the best extreme metal release of this
decade?
Also, mad respect to these grown men (they're all over 30) for not being afraid to do pig squeals
and for not jumping on the 8 string guitar bandwagon.

4.0 excellent | Dedicated1 | July 20th 16 | I've certainly moved away from this sound over the years, but the nostalgia trip hit me like a freight train in the best possible way. No djenty/nu-metally bullshit here. Straight up 2008 style deathcore. Fun as hell, and sometimes that's all music needs to be.

3.5 great | Risodo | February 6th 18 | After seven years, one of the most important bands of the genre returned to the active. Even though in a discreet way, Despised Icon returned with an insane speed, with pig shouts that are spectacular and a technique that has always highlighted the whole. The hip-hop style adopted in the clips is still hilarious, to be honest.

2.0 poor | lecolumbus | September 4th 16 | This would have been mediocre in the mid 2000s and doesn't fare any better nowadays. "The Aftermath", "One Last Martini" (a re-recording of a song written 10 years ago) and the title track are highlights, but most of the songs here show their death metal-injected style of deathcore to sound terribly one note. "Bad Vibes" is absolutely awful - it makes me wonder if the people who accused them of being tough guy stereotypes after "MVP" came out were right.

3.0 good | Alabaster Jones | July 27th 16 | Despised Icon are one of those deathcore bands that do it right: aggressive, heavy, occasionally catchy, and above all, fun. On Beast, their first record in seven years, these things are here again, and it sounds like something straight from the mid-2000's, with twenty-nine minutes of agressive, no-frills deathcore blasting through the speakers at a blistering pace. The problem here doesn't lie with the songwriting, or the vocal performance (which is quite good), or even the lyrics. It has to due with the production. Put simply, it lacks punch. Many of the slams or breakdowns sound kind of hollow, and the "oomph" that is necessary for these kind of records isn't really there. It's a shame, because this is a well-written and pretty fun album, but it could've been so, so much better had some extra time been spent in the production department.

4.0 excellent | Comatorium. | July 22nd 16 | Everything I could have wanted out of this reunion. A no holds barred blast from the deathcore past complete with pig squeals and breakdowns galore, Despised Icon don't waste a single second on Beast, and the album revels in its sound. No shame turning this on and blaring it for a good old time that reminds me of high school.

4.0 excellent | Hypochondria | July 17th 16 | Slams, brees and chugs like it's 2008. Inner Demons is a solid jam and so is Drapeau Noir. Grind Forever is probably one of the most intense songs they've ever written.
