For me, THE FINAL COUNTDOWN is a well executed pop-metal album that is reduced to little more than a guilty pleasure by the sappy lyrics and keyboards high in the mix. However, John Norum's furiously adept guitar breaks that make these cheese worth enduring - at least for a few cuts ("Rock The Night", "Love Chaser"). The title track provides a perfect example of what makes this album both somewhat appealing and intrinsically garish at the same time. It's definitely pain and pleasure in equal doses.

One of the most successful albums of the mid-1980s, but also one of the most underrated. Songs like Rock The Night, Carrie, Danger On The Track, Cherokee, and especially The Final Countdown, are all part of my adolescence.

Europe were one of the most popular bands in the 80's. The FC is a classic 80's pop/rock/gay metal album and it's their best effort. Despite the fact that Europe were not consistent they will be forever remembered for the title song.

I bought this album just for the song 'The Final Countdown', but was quite surprised to find that the rest of the album was pretty great too. It's all really catchy with an achitypically hillarious 80's hair metal style (but in a good way). Standouts include the thumping 'Danger On The Track', the chuckle-worthy 'Ninja' ("Ninja survive / Because when I'm with you / There's no need to... HIIIDE") and soppy power ballad 'Carrie'. Good, solid fun... And this from a person who won't usually touch hair metal with a ten foot barge pole!

A strong album that goes unrecognized due to its title-song, it remains consistent with great guitar-work throughout. It's a hard album despite being extremely pop leaning. The "Final Countdown" and "Rock the Night" are flat out great songs while "Carrie" is as saccharine as it gets. "Danger on the Track", Ninja", "Cherokee", and "On the Loose" are other good songs.
