3.5 great | Xenophanes EMERITUS | July 15th 16 | Listening to a ColdWorld album called "Autumn" during the 90 degree dog days of Summer is less than ideal but
I'll still fuck with it

4.3 superb | Benjamin Kuettel EMERITUS | July 15th 16 | After a lengthy eight years of inactivity, Coldworld returns with one of the best metal albums of 2016. Autumn features a plethora of added instrumentation and melodic vocals not heard before from the one-man black metal project. It's reminiscent of last year's Autumn Eternal by Panopticon in this way, even featuring folk instrumentation and female vocals. This makes for a large departure from Coldworld's rawer debut, with Autumn embodying a full range of sounds for a more polished, superior offering that even has moments of optimism, particularly within the post-rock influenced "Womb of Emptiness" and the folkish "The Wind and the Leaves." Coldworld have once again released a masterful modern metal record, one that was well worth the nearly decade long wait.

3.5 great | Brandon Scott EMERITUS | July 17th 16 | Overall this album is great, but it has the nasty tendency to drag. The more repetitive parts are an obvious weakness, and more plodding sections are tedious to sit through. However, when it all comes together (which is quite frequently) Autumn can be truly magnificent.

4.0 excellent | BallsDeep | July 16th 16 | Just finished jamming this bad boy at 35,000 feet and loved every minute of it, got a lot of paysage, agalloch and even deafheaven vibes from it yet it' still maintains it's own distinct flavour, def worth checking out

4.0 excellent | TheManMachine | November 27th 16 | Those who like their black metal mucky may find this too clean, those who dig interspersed cleans may find his too mumbly, momentum and riffage are arguably a bit middle of the road -- but besides a sparse wind+leaves interlude break, the all-encompassing combo of fury+rue rarely falters, oh so cogently blending hypnotic layers-o-loud with epic synth-voice patches and weeping violins. And though raspy shrieks are likely his true vocal calling, the mumbly works too; as his down-n-out droning fits all too un-happily in saddest+slowest/but still roaring "Woods of Emptiness". The tail-end bellowing 'woah's and the occasional particularly beastly bloodcurdler screams are nice too, but the oral peak fo sho comes during the least-void "Void"; when a crunchy pick slide from heaven opens the gates for a grand goblin+angel duet for the ages.

5.0 classic | ulver1978 | November 17th 16 | When most of melodic black metal bands use the same chord progressions, the same tricks and the same arrangements, Coldworld engage beautiful and original melodies, plus ethereal arrangements and rich dynamics. This is the definition of flawless shoegaze/melodic black metal... Instant Classic

3.5 great | Alabaster Jones | July 25th 16 | It's certainly not as depressing or as engaging as the debut from this one-man project, but to say Autumn comes with a lack of great moments is not very accurate. While the album is stylized much more like a blackgaze album would be rather than the depressive black metal of the debut, it's got enough melancholy melodies and immersive atmospherics to bring across a genuine air of sadness. The clean vocals, while not exactly incredible, are adequate in that they don't take anything away from the music around them. The album flows pretty nicely, with an excellent use of the segueing of songs together, and with the almost perfect way the album paces itself, it's definitely a full listen. The issue is that while this is some well executed blackgaze, it isn't original at all, and really sounds like it could've been made three years ago. That doesn't mean Coldworld made an album not worth listening to in Autumn, though, quite the opposite. And for the record, Last Days Of Humanity rule face.

4.5 superb | dbizzles | July 18th 16 | Fucking dope. I like this better than Melancholie, but both are fantastic and different. Thought I'd hate the cleans, but they make the songs more interesting to me, sometimes reminiscent of Agalloch or even Alcest.
