4.0 excellent | MetalMarcJK | June 9th 16 | Powerful, epic, expansive black metal. Melodic soundscapes intertwined with Dissection-esque, roaring black metal and a smattering of NWOBHM and Emperor. Would rate this 4.25 if I could. Favorite track: Black Belief.

0.0 | ramon. CONTRIBUTOR | April 14th 16 | Wode tread the line between atmospheric and natural with remarkable proficiency. They manage to invoke darker moods purely through how they play, rather than saturating the sonic sphere with reverb and effects. A wonderfully bleak release (not to mention it's free!).

3.5 great | garas | June 12th 19 | Great mix of heavy metal and melodic black. Very pleasant listen, the guitars have some extra, making this band sound original.

4.0 excellent | zaruyache | March 6th 17 | Wode's debut album borrows from Storm of the Light's Bane about as much as Storm of the Light's bane did Swedish melodeath. While Wode's core might be firmly rooted in blast-happy, fiery black metal, its frequent melodic leads hearken back to Gothenburg moreso than Oslo. There are also the noted NWOBHM-style influences and the occasional metalcore-esque riff on top of the aforementioned melodeath-isms and straight-up black metal fury. Wode mix these ideas together to create an album that, mathematically, should sound pretty unique but (not to their detriment) somehow still sounds wholly black. 3.8/5

3.0 good | FullOfSounds | August 4th 16 | Overstayed its welcome, but ultimately had a lot of great moments for it.

3.5 great | Scuro F. STAFF | June 6th 16 | rThis is really cool. The riffs are quite interesting because while they're atmostpheric, they're also catchy enough to keep you interested. The vocals are a bit dull but not bad, just nothing special, and otherwise this is a great performance with engaging songwriting and proficient musicians.

0.0 | emester | May 2nd 16 | Pretty solid yet standard fare black metal for the majority of the record. There is a kicker though. On occasion, glee-inducing NWOBHM inspired stylings and riffs show up and present what boils down to a black metal record with Arghoslent's essence scattered about. Not amazing by any means but god is it one hell of a rewarding listen.
