Fugazi + Margin Walker = 13 Songs, and it's gotta be the best introduction to the band. Funky basslines, angsty energy, gnarling riffs and that vocal duality that would characterize their whole career. While the first half is the best early Fugazi you could find, the second half proves to nurture their base sound, preparing them for Repeater.

Out of the ashes of Minor Threat and Rites of Spring, comes a whole new different beast and in most cases, I'd say this would be just a prelude for things to come; but they had talent oozing from them from the beginning.

Fugazi seems really into their music. In the songwriting process, it seems they toyed around with riffs a lot, because I don't think they are actually trained in music. And the songs as a whole are just great. Lots of great vocal lines and Guy's lyrics are really cool and slightly introspective. Each track stands out.

With 13 songs, Fugazi created an easily enjoyable album that is interesting as well as catchy. Staying true to their Punk roots from Minor Threat, there are plenty of heavier, energetic songs such as Margin Walker and Waiting Room while there is an equally amount of laid back tracks like And The Same and the groovy Suggestion. Overall 13 Songs is what you might expect from a 1980's punk band, and the bass lines are absolutely sick!
