The vocals have a little less personality this time around but the rest is standard Rotten Sound; blasty blast riff riff groove groove blast riff blast groove.

In some respects, certain types of genres need to match their sound with other influences that do not necessarily have to change the loudness already imposed over the years. That's what Rotten Sound has been up to since the release of "Exit", the band's masterpiece. The songs are there and they seem to really characterize the band sonority, but there is no evolution and enthusiasm. In addition, production is one step below the rest of the material. Even so, it's a fun album and worth checking out.

Five years removed from their last full-length, the Finnish grind outfit Rotten Sound are back with another solid outing. The strengths are similar to records from years past: Keijo Niinimaa's vocals are typically excellent, and the relentless nature of the music gives it a hectic and speedy vibe, interspersed with moments of sludgy groove. The production is pretty thick and heavy, with riffs being swallowed by the breakneck blast-beats and cymbal crashes. The drawback here is that, while the moments of lightning fast drumming and riffing are plentiful and impressive in the moment, there's not much at all in the way of memorability in those instances. The parts that stick are usually the much slower, groovier parts of the record, like "Yellow Pain" or crushing closer "Extortion And Blackmail". The one song on which everything is memorable is "Time For The Fix", which is easily the best song on the record as a result. Though it does suffer from lack of memorability, Abuse To Suffer proves that these Finnish grinders still have the intensity and drive to make a good record.
