Imagine if Thrice's music hadn't atrophated over their hiatus, but instead gotten better. This is the album they would have made.

Their steadily leaden swirl of partly-proggy post-rock crunchin' is atmospherically appealing, and though overall overcast inching is pretty much intrinsic, they stir up an adequate amount to chaw on -- opaques, acoustics, shimmers+squeals, slo-mo agility, strikingly sharp group-vox harmonizing, a conclusive stretch of ambiance. But whereas the dismal drag is manageable, the melodramatic non-group angst-vox have me rolling my eyes and muttering the band name typically throughout. Indubitable smh moments include when he wants to watch it all burn and that part about the brain-dead infant.

It's O'Brother stripping their sound down to a rough slow-burn rooted in weighty distortion. It's no where close to Garden Window but still thrilling and shows the band is still writing interesting music. I also hear a lot of neat influences at work I didn't hear from them before like Deftones (Your Move) and even a bit of Muse (title track). And Tanner's voice isn't weird any more. Now newcomers might have an easier time liking it! Recommended Songs: Your Move, Deconstruct, I Am (Become Death)

"Burn" and "Bloodlines" are my jams at the moment. It has elements of Jeff Buckley in it's softer moments while still retaining that rocking side of theirs. Awesome stuff.

Tanner's vocals have gotten a lot better and the music as powerful as its ever been. This is exceptional. I thought the singles were good but they might be the weakest songs on the album.
