Fantastic as expected, I do have one gripe though. The vocalist only uses his highs on ONE part of one song, the entire rest of the album contains nothing but his growl and the guest spots. That section of The Void Alone is the most striking part of the entire album to me. Dude needs to use that range of his more often.

Much easier on the ears than The Flesh Prevails, but as far as the songs themselves are concerned, something is missing. At nearly an hour long, it feels like the writing sessions for Dreamless were lacking in sufficient inspiration, as evidenced by the blatant recycling of ideas between "Abandon" and "Scar Queen", or the inclusion of the insipid "Les Silences". Lulls like these are juxtaposed with moments of genuine brilliance ("The Void Alone" and the title track immediately spring to mind) and overall it's a good album, but Dreamless isn't the revelation were we hoping for.

Have you all not heard the 2 songs they released? It sounds like they are bouncing off the sound rthey had in "The Flesh Prevails" but with more atmosphere like "Nomadic" I am predicting this is rgoing to be a 4 at least, so far I am in love with the 2 songs they released.

Fallujah's transformation in the last five years is certainly a welcome sight in the deathcore community. Once merely an above-average deathcore band with progressive influences here and there, they are now regarded as one of the most forward-thinking, technically skilled, and refreshingly progressive bands in the scene today. With Dreamless, they show these tendencies, but ultimately stagnate in terms of songwriting. They rest on their laurels throughout much of the album: very technically proficient riffing, blistering drumming, soaring melodic leads, and atmospheric interludes. Unfortunately, these songs begin to bleed into each other quickly and the variation from track to track is minimal, save for the electronic "Les Silences". Even still, despite all of this, Fallujah create some very good material here ("The Void Alone", "Wind For Wings"), showing their natural talent excellently. It's likely this is merely a small standstill for the band, and their potential is still very high to create something as good (or even better, hopefully) as The Flesh Prevails.

They have progressed their sound, but done so in a conservative way. The music comes across
as a full on explosion of transcendent emotion, but due to the narrow amount of arrangements
used and the monotone vocals it can lose context. The album can lose one's attention easily
and it can all start to blend together, but some of this is a side effect of the general
tone the band is going for and not exactly an outright flaw. It is best enjoyed with
completely undivided attention. Nonetheless, on the next album I would like to see the
songwriting improve.
"Abandon" is skippable and its use of the same rhythmic riff slightly devalues the far
superior "Scar Queen". The same riff is basically used again near the end of "Dreamless" but
is a somewhat interesting callback. It also feels like the best of the album is over after
"Amber Gaze". This is still a very unique and interesting experience, hence the 3.5/5, and
this is a great release for this point in Fallujah's career. But they will certainly need to
do something different for the next release. Using the darker side to a greater and more
effective extent could see this band create their best album yet. The very brief moments
that the band takes on a darker death metal sound without the atmospherics become some of
the most memorable moments on the album, and exploring this side more could give the songs
more memorable flow and make moments hit harder, whether it be a brutal section, or the
explosions of melodicism that have made the band so special.

Compared to The Flesh Prevails, the production is better but the riffs are weaker, and this album has no right to be an hour long. The songs bleed into each other with little variation between them bar two electronic filler tracks that are completely misplaced here and serve only to further bloat the album.
That said, Dreamless is consistently solid tech death. The instrumentals are tight as ever; the material just doesn't feel nearly as inspired as their previous work. Fallujah decided to take the safe route here, which is fine because they're great at what they do. I just hoped for so much more.

Dreamless is basically part 2 of The Flesh Prevails. It is still pretty damn good, but since there isn't any more evolution in the sound this time around, it just isn't quite as fresh and exciting.
