40 minutes of music that sounds exactly like his other tapes but with even less
appeal. i'm failing to see him evolving. it's worth listening, especially for
future fans, and it defin bangs harder than purple reign but he's slowly showing
he's very one-dimensional and predictable af. he can be creative at times but
dropping tapes back and forth? that's destroying his songcraft skills imo. 2.5+

It's 40 minutes of extremely high-quality slappers. Exactly what any Future fan (myself included) wants. I want to give it a 4.5 because of how much I like it, but I don't think it's objectively superb music. Certainly superb for what it is.

Starts off quite encouragingly, but rapidly falls back into Future's usual traps: quite a disappointment overall. Tbf the comparison between my rating for this and prior projects is dubious bcs there was a long break during the discog run. 1-2 are regular Future tracks with a nice mildly dark vibe and quite playlist worthy with no annoying moments or bad ideas really. The intro to 3 is a bit funny and preludes to grimmer things, but while not quite playlist worthy the track still hits hard in places. Bad intros are a recurring theme here, with 4's evoking britney spears, then a rave with cool sounds, then unfolding quite disappointingly, and 5's feeling outdated as hell, unfolding in a cool way although not without annoying sections. 6 is quite meh, but 7 while not as good as 1-2 raises the bar quite back up. 8 has a funny synthwave intro then unfolds awfully, but 9 is like 1-2. The intro to 10 is pretty terrible, but The Weeknd's feat is actually really successful and much welcome as variation - so much so that when Future's part kicks in, you realise you would kind of have preferred if this was just a wholly The Weeknd track. 11 is one of the few good surprises here, with nice instrumental especially the strings at 2:30, while 12 has yet another dumb intro but does work quite well in some places. Inconsistency, erratic structure, dumb additions that break otherwise fine songs, a couple jams in a sea of filler and excessively monochromatic delivery: this sure is a Future record. 2.9

I think what I like most about EVOL is that with it, Future stares right at his naysayers and essentially laughs in their face, completely confident and absolutely unwavering in his formula that has worked wonders for him so far. He has all the reason to. It's yet another concise, consistent, fun, and sometimes dark trap album, with the same seemingly unsustainable quality he's been working with for about a year and a half now. At this point, he's pretty much defying the law of averages, especially given that the overall sound and aesthetic haven't changed since this incredible run began. It's interesting that so many great tracks have come from this man in the last couple of years, and yet he's still able to make bangers like "In Her Mouth", "Seven Rings" and "Fly Shit Only" at the drop of a hat. You could say it's a bit redundant, and you'd be correct, but when the music is of this quality, that doesn't really matter.

EVOL is Future's fourth studio album which premiered through DJ Khaled's We The Best Radio debut on Beats 1 radio on Apple Music. EVOL is worse than your average Future project. This album literally sounds like he just slapped some songs together for money and didn't even put any time or effect into it. Future needs to chill when it comes to making music. Right now, he's just making a ton of music for money and relevancy. It's been 7 months since his third studio album, DS2, was released and 3 weeks since Purple Reign was released. I don't know about you, but that's ridiculous. And the bad part is, his quality in music is going down. This album is no where near as good as anything he released in 2015. All the songs sounded the same and were repetitive and even his flow, which is usually great, was stagnant. EVOL is a major disappointment and one of the weaker projects in Future's discography. Still not as bad as Purple Reign though.
