His most "Oneohtrix" album. Not bad, but Oneohtrix does Oneotrix better, and Hecker does Hecker better.

With sonically transcendent works before this one, Love Streams is a very tame Tim Hecker piece. The Oneohtrix Point Never "prog electronic" angle does give out some colorful textures and an ethereal sound, but its not all hyped up to be. Nothing boring, but nothing cinematic or memorable like Virgins or Harmony. It's a decently nice ambient record, but doesn't feel like a Tim Hecker record.

Not Tim Hecker's best album IMO, but I still thought it was a great album and shows that he has continuously put out consistently good, quality albums.

While the floaty flow and sinister-shroud/cozy-heaven conjugality are fairly fetching, so much of it is a flustered clutter of non-action and nonsense. Which is sorta-kinda worth wading in for when the sublime church-choir vox loom or the glitches rip on through to the other side. An appealing atmosphere as far as minced-up synth-somethings and meandering go, but some cohesion is cool too tho.

As an admitted massive fan of Hecker's work, I love that this album brings a noticeable shift in his sound. All his previous more drone and noise heavy works are so singular and specific to each album, that another record of a similar sound would have been redundant. Virgins was his first album to start steping away from his sungaze aesthetic, and Love Streams moves even further away whilst still remaining unmistakably a Hecker album. The unpredictability is still there, the nod to minimalism is still there, and of course the textures are both noisy and heavenly.

I know I'm in the minority here, but this is the first album of Tim Hecker's I've ever heard. As such, I didn't quite know what to expect before hearing it. Now that I have heard it, I still don't know what to make of it. It has a certain mystique to it that is always calling out to the listener, but it's hard to put a finger on what exactly that is. The atmosphere is wonderfully accentuated, making use of both warm and cold soundscapes to give the ambience a fluid texture. The inclusion of the Icelandic Choir Ensemble is a nice touch, as it gives an intimacy to the music that would not be so pronounced without it. The use of slight, delicate drones and some glitchy electronics here and there give yet another color and texture to the sound, making the final product wonderfully nuanced and well-formed. Overarching all of this is that aforementioned sense of mystique and wonder, which is clearly noticeable when looking at the whole picture, but unidentifiable when searching for its origin. Needless to say, Love Streams is an encompassing and interesting album. Note to self: listen to more Tim Hecker.
