I was worried after five long years, Rush would be no more. They came back from the precipice of almost breaking up and provided a really strong effort. The remixed album is much better. Almost like they tried too hard on this one. Standout tracks are Ceiling Unlimited, How It Is, and the drumming on One Little Victory is tops.

Shows Rush's musical prowess, but this release in particular seems to just drag on as each song
goes by. It also lacks any truly stand-out tunes.
Those things being said, this album is far from average.

Sub-standard songwriting, lack of guitar solos, and poor mastering plagued this album. There are some moments where the album shines, but those moments are few and far between.

It seems Rush doesn't tire in regards to toying with their formula. In many ways, they both leave behind their traditional prog style while still being able to sound like themselves (an interesting paradox, to say the least). Rush isn't really growing musically here, they're just doing what feels refreshing to them, and they prove to be better at this than many other bands their junior.

Around the song Vapor Trail, the album picks up and is largely decent for the second half. Nocturne and Freeze are decent songs as well.

Like Test For Echo, there's great stuff here but it's just not as consistent. However, I would say the highs were higher on this one, and there's fewer tracks which suck. I personally like the mix, too.

An album, with which may lot of Rush fans have a problem. Risky sound experiment, where everyone from the band are playing their best and fusing original Rush sound with math-rock and, I dare to say, post-rock elements. Alex Lifeson proves here, that he is one of the most original, underrated and neglected guitar players in history, when he makes SO interesting sounds on his instruments (Freeze, Peaceable Kingdom). Awesome and unique noisy recording. Not so well produced, but excellent anyway. I am really disapointed a little bit that band has not continued with this fearless experimental way on their next album too (nothing against Snakes and Arrows though).

Despite this being smack in the middle of a series of Rush records that ended up being my least favourites by the band, something about Vapor Trails stood out to me. Perhaps it was because for that tour, I attended my first concert. Then again, I saw Snakes & Arrows live and it didn't really do much more for the album...so here we are. Vapor Trails is in the 90's alternative rock vein, though Rush never really loses their unique feel. There are some obvious filler tracks on here, which probably gets to me the most, but there are enough solid tracks to keep this as a repeated listener, at least for a little while.

Vapour Trails is one of my personal favourite albums by Rush. It goes back to sort of the old school rush when there were no synths and the drumming was phenomenal. Although the drumming is always like that. My favourite songs on this album are One Little Victory, Ghost Rider and Earthshine. Anyone who hasn't already checked out this album, do so. It is fantastic!
