It seems like Future meant the title to this tape means a couple of things: that he is currently reigning as the king of trap, and that the purple reigns over him. Because while the tape initially sounds very braggadocios and celebratory of his status, it quickly spirals into a more personal and, to be frank, hopeless sound. The ending trio of songs is enough to evidence this, with "Run Up" stating that he will not feel complete without billions of dollars. "Perky's Calling" is unequivocally the most personal track, with the struggles of a painful drug addiction and gang violence being related. The title track then laments, "I just need my girlfriend, I just need my girl", which betrays the loneliness felt throughout the process. It's worth noting that the tape is somewhat inconsistent, as there are plenty of great tracks that are followed by mediocre ones, like how "Bye Bye" follows "Salute". Still, if anything, this tape is another in a line of very good and even excellent releases by Future, which is something you come to expect by now.

Not a strong Future record, but one that holds good surprises - chiefly, the excellent jam 5 which may well be my fave Future track so far in his discog. Most songs, while they have good sections here and there, suffer form memey sounds, instrumentally and vocally, that just make them feel more parodic than musically interesting, and certainly preclude them from playlist-worthiness for the most part. The closing track does make it work, although it offers pretty much nothing in the way of album conclusion. The two prior tracks are also worth mentioning: 10, as one of the rare examples where the instrumental is less memey but the vocals are really unfitting and clearly the weakest point; and 11, which is ok, but weirdly quiet and subdued compared to everything else on the record. The dark, hard intro track is also quite fine, and so is 8. 6 is kinda ok but the harder vibe after the excellent 5 kinda clashes badly. Really not all that great but I recommend 5 vividly if you like Future. 2.9

coming from dirty sprites 2, this was quite disappointing. nothing here grabbed my attention, it's very short on surprises. he's getting too confortable with his style and that is taking the best out of him imo. his past mixtapes were a lot more exciting than this. not working for me! 2.5+
