The kings of moody doom/prog have returned and pick up right where they left off. The music and black metal vocals are still really good, but the clean singing is still way too monotone to allow these songs to get to the next level.

Ursa is a more patient record than its predecessor The Blue, with less emphasis on genre bending. "Australis," "Umana," "Agathae," and "Fin" are counted with the best songs they ever wrote, lending Ursa to the triumphant feel it exudes for much of the running time. The fluid atmospheres recall bands like Opeth and Katatonia, while sounding just as original. With a masterful command of structure and compelling songwriting ideas, Ursa is among the finest melodic metal records in recent years.

The drumming is competent, however uninspired and bland. The departure of G. Orlando shows significantly, as he is a very stylistic and tasteful drummer. This doesn't stack up to Novembrine Waltz, in my opinion, due to the bland drumming, lack of any Italian lyrics and the overall safe approach to the songwriting.
