3.0 good | marf1300 | January 10th 17 | Outside of the guitar and keyboard solos, this album just feels flat. I wish this were just and instrumental showdown of the Megadeth guitarists. They bumped up my rating half a point.

4.0 excellent | Trey STAFF | February 26th 16 | Someone once said that Redemption does what Dream Theater seems incapable of doing. They can write classy progressive metal tracks that are full of heavy riffs and technically proficient solos while still keeping their focus on the actual songs. Redemption also has a vocalist that is a benefit to the band, and on The Art of Loss all of those things have come together to create another excellent album. The fact that they somehow managed to pull a myriad of awesome guest musicians, including Chris Poland, onto the recording only goes to show how much this band is respected. The Art of Loss is an album that had plenty going against it, but instead of calling it a day, Redemption has endured once again. The Art of Lossmaintains the heavy riffs and driving rhythms of This Mortal Coil, but returns the focus to the classy progressive metal that defined the band’s earlier albums. If The Art of Loss isn’t considered Redemption’s best album, it’s damn near close.

3.0 good | Xenorazr | March 2nd 16 | I feel like this is to Redemption as Blackwater Park is to Opeth; competently made and solid progressive music that serves as a comfortable reference point for the band. However, both albums failed to captivate me, and in Redemption's case it's even more so, which I'm ready to blame on the production more than anything, because it sounds so flat, like the life of the band is kept at bay in favor of dulled restraint. It's enjoyable and a pretty safe bet if one is trying to get friends (or others) into progressive metal with a band that has more of a rock-like sound, but I wouldn't go further than that.
