The best HIM album, includes both heavy and melodic, yet still accessable and very hooky and chorus based. A win for mainstream metal.

Doomy, gloomy and fucking heavy while still sounding pristine and expensive. Just the way I like it.rVenus Doom is an incredible dark whole that takes quite a lot to take in. The songs are multi-layered and downright onanistic at times, but that's how the best records are. If there are new little elements to discover even a decade after it's realese, it means it's worth listening to.

I dont have a history with this band. I grew up thinking the logo was a skate brand or something. So whatever people think is cringe or guilty pleasure about this band totally went over my head. I randomly put this on and was kind of blown away by it. Great guitar work and vocals, and the melodies are so infectious. Within the last 6 months or so, this has become one of my favorite records.

The best album in my opinion. The sound was anti pop and dark and gloomy. Reminding me of Type o Negative. Lindes solos are shown and his excellence as a guitarist fully shines. Valos vocals are also nothing compared to previous albums. I dont find anything wrong with this album except wishing song or suicide wasnt so short.

I loved every song on this album except the ten minute song "Sleepwalking Past Hope" (I personally don't like long songs, but there are a few long songs i like) but it's still a good song.

after Dark LIght i was a little worried about what HIM was going to do next. Because once that album was released HIM lost a lot of momentum as a classic band. I mean, Love Metal propelled them forward toward having the chance to be one of the best bands in the world. Dark Light ruined that (which may have been due to Valo's drinking problems...that's a separate opinion). If Venus Doom, a much better album, had been released as the album after Love Metal, perhapse HIM could have reached that level. Venus Doom is experimental and weird (compared to Dark Light at least), but at least it's entertaining and catchy, unlike DL. It seems that at least Valo really got what he wanted this time around. It's not heavy-as-hell like he had said, but the chanting breakdown moments in Venus Doom and Sleepwalking Past Hope are very unnusual and well-used. Very good album.

I liked this album a lot because it was HIM trying to explore more into their goth roots. Venus Doom is not HIM trying to go back to previous moments in their career, but trying to find a new direction. HIM's magic has always relied in simple structures, very heart felt lyrics, and good melodies. So, they do not exclude that. They try to add more edge to it. Try to add deeper voices and slower riffs into the mix. And the final result... well, it's not perfect, but it does not fail either. Also, for me this album marks a very dark moment for Valo, where he was struggling with substances, and... je je je, that kind of makes the album a bit more interesting for me!
But yeah, HIM is the kind of band you either love or hate. I guess I love ... it.

This was quite bad.
HIM is known for being quite dark and boringly depressing but i did used to like this band at one point. Just something about their songs. I though i might as well buy this, but this was one of the worst albums i own. Every song sounds exactly the same, the lyrics the guitars, the drums. The thing is HIM are my guilty pleasure i love the songs, i just wish the lyrics weren't so repetitive.
Bleed Well is a pretty good song
And i wish Song or Suicide was longer because its really calm,
My favourite song on the album was dead lovers lane, its catchy.
To be honest i do like the songs on this album, but they get old pretty fast.
Its the album you listen to for a week and then realise that it was a waste of hard earned cash.
