4.0 excellent | 2453 | February 15th 16 | Kanye does whatever he wants, embracing his public persona to the fullest on this record. In how self-indulgent the lyrics get at times, Kanye mirrors the peoples perception of him, I Love Kanye is pretty much a testament to his self-awareness. Sonically this is his first record without him going for a certain sound. He's all over the place, pushing his boundaries into each and every direction he went for on previous efforts. The songs pair crazy structures, clashing and off-putting elements and abrupt endings with euphoric heights, great melodies and visionary production, projecting his personality more wholly onto the music itself than every release of his before. The title can be interpreted in many ways, but to me it's a dare, asking the audience to look over his shortcomings and take him for what he is: an artist.
It's his least approachable and most puzzling work to date, to say the least.

3.1 good | Erwann S. STAFF | August 29th 22 | A messy album for sure. Ye seems to have scattered-slash-smashed everything he had in mind in this clutterfuck of a record. Yet Ye remains Ye, and he can provide some damn fine musical moments - the first "Father" tracks, that Taytay diss track, or "No More Parties in LA". Nevertheless, the record is difficult to listen to on its own because two succeeding tracks have nothing in common.
Bump |
3.5 great | Grungil | March 5th 22 | Kanye White-ist album. Mixing a bit of everything he tried since 808s and even more. Despiste having no theme, Pablo is full of great short tunes and (at least 2) classics on 𝙐𝙡𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙢 and 𝙁𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙨.

4.0 excellent | BlitzPhoenix98 | March 19th 21 | May sound confused at first, but it's one of those albums that require more listens to be ingrained. A lot of the tracks here sound like leftovers from Kanye's early days (No More Parties In L.A. and Real Friends), and there's gospel influences (Ultralight Beam - where also Chance The Rapper outpeaks everyone during his verses) and a retrospective on his own issues (such as bipolar disorder). I love you Kanye, like Kanye loves Kanye.

4.5 superb | eljonny | November 19th 20 | God damn I love the production on this album. There are some brilliant moments lyrically, but most of it lyrically is average at best.

4.0 excellent | beng360 | November 9th 20 | Excellent record. Waves to NMPILA currently best 8 track peat in a rap album. Really encapsulates kanye sound post yeezus. I like kanye's interpretation of his album : "A gospel album with a lot of swearing" and that says so little and so much about what this record represents in Kanye's lore. Not a 5 because there are very weak tracks like Feedback, Facts, Low lights and sometimes the interludes can be overwhelming. Despite that, opening and closing tracks (Ultralight beam and Saint Pablo respectively) are in my eyes perfect.

1.5 very poor | ElHombreChino | November 28th 17 | I kind of liked this one. It's so damn fun. I like how Kanye reeally want so bad to be considered a true artist. The randomness of his way to be "experimental" made me do some 0.5 worth laugh. But it is a pretty useless album.
Bump |
5.0 classic | Nicksput | October 29th 17 | It seems that much of the criticism towards Kanye West has more to do with his perceived personality defects and his affiliation with Kardashians than the quality of his music. People will say that he's an asshole, and that may be true, but is the rapper who champions black on black violence and drug dealing while living in a mansion any better? Kanye has never adopted the killer/dope dealer stance, and it's refreshing to hear a major label artist not succumb to the pressure of spitting that type of ignorance. Ye raps about his life in a way that is uniquely his own. After his first major misstep of his career, he returns in a big way with the innovative The Life of Pablo. This album is quite the listening experience, stretching the boundaries of rap once again, while making a project that sounds like it comes from another planet. The keys and guitar sounds are manipulated in a spacey, smokey way and the bass booms on almost every track. Ye's raps continue to be bizarre and are full of hilarious quotables. There is also a shocking amount of self-awareness (I Love Kanye). Real Friends is a sobering account of his relationship with his family, that is deeply personal and genuine. The album returns to the party vibe of his previous pre-Yeezus albums, with the guest appearances all feeling natural and contributing something important to the record. Kanye continues to say whatever he wants, and his production/vision always puts him at the top of his game. People don't hate him because he says he's a genius, they hate because he's right.
Bump |
3.0 good | danielschauer | July 2nd 17 | The scattered, erratic production might be representative of Kanye's mental state at the time of the album's creation but it's not representative of a finished product. Always listenable, mostly enjoyable, but rarely anything outstanding.
Bump |
3.0 good | Jau Peacecraft | June 26th 17 | Far less focused & more erratic than Yeezus. Sounds like an EP with demos tacked on.
Bump |
3.5 great | GooGooGajoob | February 25th 17 | There's people who will just agree with whatever Kanye says and take it as gospel, and then people who know he's a capable artist who just so fucking lazy and uncommitted.
Bump |
2.5 average | runaways | January 7th 17 | It's hard to see any way in which this album could influence future hip hop. If 808s influenced the many mopey R&B artists like Drake and The Weeknd and if Yeezus was an attempt at watered down Death Grips, then what in Kanye's name is The Life of Pablo? Calling The Life of Pablo a fucking mess is an understatement and it's easy to view the album as Kanye's White Album or In Utero. A big fuck you to the public (as if Yeezus wasn't already that). But Pablo's messiness doesn't come anywhere near those albums minor inconsistencies or filler tracks. The Life of Pablo has highlights aplenty (Ultralight Beam, No More Parties in L.A., Wolves, Waves) but for all those it has plenty of terrible tracks (basically the entire first half of the album). The Life of Pablo is something to marvel at indeed. It's the first album to be tweaked post-release. So if there's one thing the album succeeds at, it's further cementing Kanye's cultural relevance as an artist, one who is not afraid to advance his field, even if those advancements are...sometimes terrible.
Bump |
3.0 good | kekleldoge | September 28th 16 | I vastly overrated this album when it came out. It lacks the experimentation of Yeezus and the connection to Kanye all of his other work has. It's still good though, has a few bangers and excellent production.
Bump |
4.0 excellent | cjbizzlebizzle | August 23rd 16 | Bottom line: Kanye West's consistent and impressive stretch of always releasing one of the most interesting, well produced and well written Hip Hop albums of the year continues. It is hard to imagine what people are expected from Kanye at this point in his career but The Life of Pablo keeps things fresh pulling elements from seemingly every point of his career and adding more, or maybe pulling some back in a somewhat stripped down, less-grandiose atmosphere. In this case, it works out nicely allowing each element of each track to shine. Whereas Yeezus was all Kanye, TLOP pulls from guests seemingly at every turn: Chance the Rapper slays Ultralight Beam alongside epic operatic choruses, Sia delivers on Wolves and Kanye recycles Desiigner to create a track more enjoyable than the original. Variety keeps TLOP interesting from end to end with drastic changes in style between each track. There are certainly some duds but the experience flies by with highlights at Highlights, Ultralight Beam, Waves, FML, Wolves and Famous. People are probably waiting for the next MBDTF but it is so refreshing to see that Kanye can create fresh, excellent albums time and time again.

2.0 poor | DadEsquire | August 18th 16 | One of the top ten most frustrating albums for me to listen to for many reasons.
Bump |
2.0 poor | MeetMeAtBarItalia | July 3rd 16 | This record depress me more than anything I've heard or seen this year...It's not even that bad, but just a generic and purposeless mess. West has clearly been losing his mind for a few years, and The Life of Pablo is the sound of a man finally being swallowed by his own ego. I enjoyed all his other albums up to this point, but most of the songs here are lacking in structure and personality. The guest stars are just bells and whistles used to distract us from the fact that there is no substance here... Only Kanye can get away with sampling a random stupid trap song and calling it a new track. That Nina Simone interpolation on "Famous", a banger with no bass, thin drum machines and weak lines, really got on my nerves as well. However, there are a few highlights musically that keeps this from being a complete failure : the minimalism on "Ultralight Beam" is really quite chilling, even if the lyrical content is lackluster, while "FML" and newest inclusion "Saint Pablo" offer us the last traits of self-awareness of West amongst an ocean of bullshit. I hope that he is still capable of doing something worthwhile, he is a talented and interesting writer when he actually tries, but we need to stop looking at him as : a) a musical genius that can no wrong ; b) the scum of the earth. Kanye West is getting way too much attention, and I cannot think that this coming out as flawed as it came has nothing to do with his exposure... There is so much more out there that deserves the exposure this album got...
Bump |
4.5 superb | Herbie Chrost | June 15th 16 | Wait a minute... Being that the name of this album is named Pablo and it constantly changes like a human being's life... Hence "The Life of Pablo"?????
Bump |
3.5 great | BRAman22 | June 13th 16 | Kanye West is a mad fucking genius. There are a good number of songs on here that I typically wouldn't really consider 'real songs' but since it's Kanye it just works for some reason.
Bump |
1.5 very poor | ItsMaxwell | April 25th 16 | For the amount of effort he is putting behind changing this thing, this album is shockingly insipid and uninspired in every aspect and every facet. Everything feels out of place, the writing is even worse than Yeezus, and some where on this album a top ten hit by The Artist currently known as a Future imitator just appears out of nowhere. The two highlights, "Real Friends" and "No More Parties in L.A.", feel like they belong as scraps off of My Dark Twisted Fantasy, not on this thing. Dj Quik had a point.
Bump |
4.0 excellent | thisismyusername | March 31st 16 | Kanye is still on a mission to create an excellent experimental hip hop album. Many would say Yezzus was very generic of anything to expect from experimental hip hop well this album is definitely a turn from that. This albums production and style is dripping with individuality. Its all over the place in production but all of it is quite fun to listen to. The guests on this album are great from the Weeknd on FML, Kendrick Lamar on No More Parties and I even enjoy Chris Brown on Waves. Although some chances Yeezy takes on this album fall flat (30 Hours outro) lots of them really hit.

The Life of Pablo is the seventh studio album from Kanye West which premiered on February 11 during the Yeezy Season 3 at Madison Square Garden. This album infuses gospel music with trap and house music and contains features from Chance the Rapper, The-Dream, Mary J Blige, Kirk Franklin, KiD CuDi, Desiigner, Rihanna, Young Thug, Chris Brown, The Weeknd, Ty Dolla $ign, Max B, Frank Ocean, Caroline Shaw, André 3000, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone. TLOP is a work of art and probably my favorite album from him. Kanye doesn't hold back at all on this album and doesn't water down his music or show any censorship. For example: said he was going to have sex with Taylor Swift, dissed Ray J, poked fun at Rob Kardashian's weight, ect. Lyrically, this album isn't anything special but the production, humor, guest appearances and vocals definitely make up for it. The production on this album is jaw dropping with nice vocal samples, amazing drums, good melodies, and a heavy bass. Not to mention the unbelievable guest line up. The guest like up is legendary and all of them killed their hook/verse and contributed to this album in a good way. The vocals are outstanding. With beautiful gospel singing, dark autotune, and smooth R&B singing, the vocals are definitely the highlight of this album aside from the production. This album was like a mixture of all of Kanye's styles. With it's nearly flawless tracklist, amazing production, and fantastic vocals, TLOP is a straight masterpiece and I suggest you listen to it.

3.0 good | Monstar1790 | February 29th 16 | A rambling, occasionally inspiring, ultimately disappointing 60-minute ode to self-destructive ambition--a monument of a career in freefall.

2.0 poor | ajnack | February 22nd 16 | It becomes harder and harder with every album that Kanye gives us to separate "Kanye West"
from "The Album". This isn't an album about Pablo Picasso, or Pablo Escobar, or even Paul
the Apostle. It's /supposed/ to be an album about these characters, but it is about another
character altogether: Kanye West himself.
But what's the harm in that? Many seem to find Kanye's personality entertaining given his
absurd number of twitter followers. However, given his recent behavior on twitter, it is
becoming harder and harder to take Kanye seriously, and there is a certain level of guilt
that comes with laughing at someone who almost certainly is mentally imbalanced.
So this album is intrinsically tied to Kanye, and Kanye is an egomaniac. There really isn't
much more to the album than songs by and about Kanye West, and Kanye himself is becoming
less and less appealing.
Bump |
3.0 good | NewBallistics | February 18th 16 | Certainly more appealing than Yeezy's last attempt to best himself, Kayne West steps up to home plate with his 7th studio album with some interesting results. On one hand, this is West at his most familiar. Kanye is like a little brother that has absolutely no filter at family get-togethers; he's hysterical. Many fans of The College Dropout days will enjoy the back-half of the instrumentals on this record too. "Real Friends" is by far his best work in years.rOn the other hand, the majority of this sounds completely smashed together with half-baked ideas littered throughout. Songs can sound muddy, under-produced or even lazily cut together. I find it hard to believe much went into this record when he reports that this album was his "most expensive to date". In my opinion, it's his most pushed.

The problem is the tone of the album is completely inconsistent and some of the songs end or change super abruptly. Also the mixing/mastering of this is some of the worst I've ever heard on an album, everything is distorted to the max and it sounds awful.rAlso the '8 new songs' he announced on thed tracklist are literally just parts of the original songs that are split up into different tracks, nothing was added except for Waves.
