Alice In Chains captured live and acoustic. The band has always shined in their live shows and their acoustic EPs Sap and Jar of Flies are just as enjoyable as their hard hitting full lengths, and this awe-inspiring record takes their live greatness and their acoustic prowess and mixes it all together to make a fine record indeed. One of the best Unplugged albums, Layne Staley's deteriorating condition (most evident on the DVD) makes this, one of their final performances together before Staley's drug-induced demise, a somewhat tragic and sombre listen.

This is right up there with Nirvana's MTV Unplugged appearance as far as quality goes, but it couldn't quite match the emotion of Kurt Cobain's masterful performance. AIC delivers amazing live renditions of their acoustic EP songs as expected, but the real gems here are the unplugged versions of album tracks that you can't hear anywhere else. Some of these variations come out out of left field, but all of them hit their mark here.

This album is just so emotionally charged with all the tormented feelings of Staley. His vocal performance and there rest of the bands instruments go very well with the band creating a dark but melodic sound. The songs can become so brooding such as Nutshell and Frogs, the latter being actually quite disturbing. Of all AIC's albums I think this one will still be listened to years from now and people will still feel the same way. They will feel that same emptiness and hopefully view Staley as the tragic figure our generation views him as. That long lasting effect is what imo makes an album a classic.
