Asking Alexandria are one of various modern mainstream bands that I can't for the life of me stand, putting it lightly. I'd be here all day and night talking about why I detest this ensemble so, but for the moment, this user can rest easy knowing that The Black is actually a Growing the Beard sign for these Englishmen. Studio album #4 is very enjoyable in short bursts, and the recording showcases musical growth in comparison to AA's previous releases; this isn't saying much, but I'd rather have fun than go through utmost lunacy with a style such as metalcore. Predictable and unoriginal as it is, The Black ends up functioning as a step in the right direction for the quintet. With that said, Asking Alexandria ought to stop recruiting members with ridiculous names.

Most of it is really good. The interview parts in Sometimes it Ends are a little weird, and a rSlave to Rock N Roll is kinda stupid. Undivided is boring and repetitive lyrically, but other than rthat, this album rocks. Definitely a great choice with Denis and everything they've changed. rTypical metalcore sound which is better than their electronica roots. Don't write it off based on rthe name attached.

Miles ahead of anything since Stand Up and Scream, though that isn't saying too much. Instead of sounding
like a bad hair/glam rock band with a dull metallic edge, AA goes back to a much more metalcore oriented
sound. It's basically what I imagine Bring Me The Horizon would sound like these days if they still used
screaming in their music. Album's a fun romp through mid-2000s scenecore and a good time if you don't
expect much out of it.

one way to make a notably terrible album is to make it irrelevant 6 months after release, by completely dropping any songs from the album from the live setlist after that 6 month time, by bringing back the same vocalist your trash on the whole runtime on the album. but at least the cover art is good?
