Voivod have finally released the first new material of their career without their founding guitarist. So how is it? It's great. The first four tracks sound like classic Killing Technology/Dimension Hatross-era tunes, while the final track could have been lifted directly from Angel Rat with a slightly more progressive edge. We'll all miss Piggy, but it appears Voivod aren't going anywhere.

It's never a good thing when a band loses one of its centerpieces, one of its main creative forces. It's even worse when they're taken from them in death. Unfortunately, such was the case with seminal progressive/technical thrash metal band Voivod and lead guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour, who died of colon cancer in 2005. This EP marks the first batch of material the band has made without his guidance. And it's quite excellent. The riffs here are most certainly up to par with the bands' standards, and the drumming is great as per usual. The songwriting here is very good, as the riffs segue wonderfully into some surprisingly catchy choruses and slick solos. In a nutshell, this EP is the first page of a new chapter for Voivod, and I sincerely hope it will be a thrilling read.

The first two songs are pretty cool, especially the second. After that there is a dip in quality but they're still alright.

In view of their upcoming album, which is slated for release some time in 2016, the French-Canadians have gathered all the split singles issued last year, and added previously unreleased material composed on and off the road. Needless to write, but the EP complies with Voivod standards, whereas it partially eases the anticipation for the upcoming full length.
