yeah im sorry but pretty much any chance there was of me ever listening to this is ruined by that fucking shart of an album art

all these lyrics had been written for other artists to create a song out of them but for some reason, that never happened. sia picked up those lyrics and tried to create an album full of outtakes but, unfortunetly, pretty much every single track feels exactly like that: an outtake. sia's powerful vocals aren't enough to bring this project back to life and, all in all, it's a downright disappointing follow-up to 1000 forms of fear. 2-

This Is Acting is 1000 Forms in Fear, but worse: Sia's over-the-top vocals take way too much space and lose any kind of nuance her range allowed her, the Imagine Dragons-lite instrumentals try to cover their blandness with overproduction, and it's retrospectively understandable why these overly dramatic and why-so-serious lyrics weren't picked up by anyone in the industry.

Cheap Thrills, despite it's cheesy synth riff and it's obnoxious production, is the best title here. Because every other song is literally the same. Same melody, choruses, rythms, everyhting.

Salient voc-cords that'll rope in rooters for radio-friendly skyrocket showboating with toss-in tinges of weird in the form of bellower-vibratos and willingness to crack-n-strain -- the inevitable handful of alluring hooks ("Cheap Thrills", "Reaper", and "House on Fire" make for a notable triadic chunk) being no match for the brashly generic club-cliches and exorbitant vociferous schmaltz. Then there's all the nondescript against-the-odds triumph and self-assuring redundancies, oh and the self-sacrificial metaphors: she'd take one million bullets for you babe, she's a house on fire that wants to keep burning baby, etc. On one hand I admire her audacious pluck, but the other has me craving a less hackneyed tone-down.

I completely understand what is the fuss with this album. Sia wanted to replicate her success and make a 2000 Forms Of Fear. Releasing such an album full of almost every rejected song by someone is risky, so that's why I gave this a 2. Sia was probably lazy to write another song, so she probably decided to take all the rejected ones and make them her own. A huge step down from 1000 Forms Of Fear.

This album art is absolutely dreadful. Didn't Kelly Osbourne have that same hairdo in 2005? Instead of calling it "This Is Acting", why don't we call it "Nose Tape and a Fishy Face"? Better ring to it, but ehh that's just me. I can see it now... Sia: "Ugh. Adele stole my glamour shot for an album cover, what do I do?" Photographer: "just make a silly face" Sia: "*Poses for album cover*" Photographer: "*giggles* Perfect" Sia: "Sia... later"
