| 2.5 average | Johnny Maccaroni | December 3rd 15 | I don't think leaving the vocals out was a smart move for this band... they added depth and meaning to the music (see Atlas Hour)... Yup, crucify me now you intervals purists...

| 4.0 excellent | jmh886 | December 9th 15 | Is this a foo fighters cover album? So this was really impressive after one listen. I honestly
didn't care for their album with vocals at all and loved their EPs. A welcome return to form.

| 3.5 great | Levitucus | December 12th 15 | Very impressed with Marshall's ability to
output great technicality while creating an
uplifting atmosphere. That is a combination
that I don't see to often. Reminds me of a
better-executed migration by scale the summit.

| 4.0 excellent | Zearo298 | December 7th 15 | Wow, I am VERY impressed. After Tesseract's new album this year, I was a little underwhelmed. They had created a beautiful sounding album, but with a lot less intricacy and unique groove that Altered State had. This had me fearing for the new Intervals release, but this is a good old case of "don't compare the old girlfriend to the new one" as this record is AMAZING. Aaron Marshall's composition and playing is incredible, memorable, unique, and skillful. I can pick out his playing just like you can pick out a vocalist on a pop song, it's amazing. Far and away vocals were not necessary for this album, give it a listen if you liked anything about anything Intervals has done before, or even Sithu Aye, Plini, or any fusion progressive.

| 4.0 excellent | BtwntheAKIRAndMe | December 6th 15 | High 8 out of 10: I'm not even a person who's a fan of shred music, but holy fucking shit the composition in this record is incredible. I didn't know if I was going to ever think of Intervals the same after Semesky left (even though I do like their previous EPs), but this is just proof that Aaron is doing just fine being by himself.

| 3.0 good | Bedex | August 5th 23 | I don't think this is bad, but it just does close to nothing for me. While competent this is by and large an emotionless experience for ole Bede here. The instrumental bedroom
djent chugging and noodling is well crafted, and the music is never annoying or anything, but I wasn't engaged by it bar for a few moments where the tracks breathe more and take
time to set a mood. Around 2:30 on 2 before returning to the chug, the sax on 3, or the midtrack on 7 were such 'highlights'. Even if it doesn't do that, I found 8 to be pretty
cool for a chuggers track as well. Still, this gives me no desire to further explore this band's catalogue - again, not because they're bad, but because they're not a band for me.
Cool artwork however! 3.0

| 4.5 superb | forbes72 | April 23rd 17 | A technical, but very upbeat album. The hooks are fantastic. It could use a bit more variety maybe, but what's here is enjoyable and worthwhile.

| 3.0 good | Alex C. | January 18th 16 | Well played and well produced, but where's the great riffs that made his EPs so good? It's an enjoyable record but still below expectations.

| 3.5 great | Alabaster Jones | December 6th 15 | I've never really been a big fan of this djent/progressive metal combination. It has its select albums, but no band has really done it on a consistent level for me. Intervals is the one exception to that statement. Their take on the subgenre is more jazzy and mathy, similar to Animals As Leaders, but they not only do the style better, but the production is better as well, not sounding as sterile and lifeless as some of their contemporaries. The Shape Of Colour is a faithful continuation of this sound, only in a much more concise and crisp way than ever before. Sometimes in can get lost in itself, but the sheer volume of the compositions and the proficiency with which the compositions are played is quite impressive. It can get samey as well, but it's rarely a bore. There are no vocals this time around, harkening back to their early days, but the songs are more complete and the instruments are all clearly audible. In all, another good outing from Intervals, who continue to be the best at what they do.
