| 4.5 superb | c0nf1n3d | July 15th 16 | "Sometime Last Night" is a fantastic, pulse-pounding, crisp record that hits essentially all of the high notes perfectly. R5 stray away from their Disney days to produce numerous tracks lushly filled with unique instrumentation and (believe it or not) intriguing lyrics. Songs like "All Night", "Let's Not Be Alone Tonight", and "Smile" are sure to please the average pop radio listener; while "Dark Side", "Repeating Days", and "I Know You Got Away" gives a nice contrast to the pop side of this record. "Repeating Days" especially utilizes perfect dynamics to become perhaps the best song the band has written, while "I Know You Got Away" is a jamming song beginning to end. The only downside is the closer track, "Did You Have Your Fun?". After the previous song "Do It Again" essentially gives the album a solid ending-vibe, the band continues with "Did You Have Your Fun"...which is fine, but just isn't as good as everything else on "Sometime Last Night." This is an outstanding record though that anyone should at least listen to once.
