Cerebral lyrics and jazz-influenced abstract beats = dope shit. Kenny Segal's beats are lush, but the longer tracks do meander due to their musical minimalism and slam-like delivery. Fortunately, the record is short enough: ten more minutes would have been too much.

The addled zen scientist with his inwardly infinite capacity for self-reflection just
demolishes. Flow knows exactly where to linger and stumble ("well there seem to be some
misconceptions/...there seems to.there seem/......I don't think that you understand") and
where to exalt (Busdriver).

I think this is alright, at best. 32 minutes doesn't appear to be a time long enough to make an impression. Although Milo does showcase some very heft rapping skills with phrases that stop just before the 'verbose' line, some lyrics fall flat. I believe it's the third track on here where he repeats the "soul fly" lyric over and over again, using the names of different people. It's groovy, it's somewhat relaxing, and it's worth coming back to a few times, but I'm afraid that wall of complicated words and somewhat-clever lines is thin.

I'm sorry, Yoshimitsu from Soulcalibur II, but So the Flies Don't Come basically proves that overconfidence isn't always the greatest enemy. Wisconsin native Rory Ferreira (known by the alias Milo) is firing on a lot of cylinders on his 2015 LP. Clocking in at a 32-minute runtime, the album's certainly far from long, making the material digestible and practically a cakewalk to venture through. The jazz-fueled production values coupled with Milo's flow sounds like a match made in Heaven, and the execution is nearly stellar. Like a demon who's usually painted the color gray, I've got nothing else to say. If you're into the (relatively speaking) thinking man's variant of hip hop music, this record will most likely have something for you to gnash your teeth together. Angel recommends: "Zen Scientist," "Re:Animist," "An Encyclopedia," "Napping Under the Echo Tree," and "Song About a Raygunn (An Ode to Driver)".

loving the metaphorical and abstract vibe of this album. by far milo's most interesting work to date but it won't work for everyone, especially for those who like more straight forward hip hop. not his fault, though! 3.5-

Well thought out, instrumentally cohesive but not samey, thought provoking, diverse flows and topics & every tracks just all around great. A little on the short side but that's definitely not a gripe. Check this out now

If it's one thing I can appreciate about Milo, it's that he's been working tirelessly since his debut to perfect his craft, and for the most part he's been quite enjoyable. On his newest record, he lyrically sounds like a mix between Earl Sweatshirt's introspective raps and Aesop Rock's intelligent lines, with a voice reminiscent of the former. Yet, the sound is distinctly Milo's, as he coexists wonderfully with the abstract and jazzy production, and sounds ultimately pretty comfortable within it. The guest spots are decent, and the album manages to remain at pretty much the same quality throughout, "Souvenir" and "Going No Place" being the highlights, the former having some truly clever and rewind-worthy lyrics, and the latter being an evocative piece leaning on beautiful production. It's a short listen, but there's stuff to digest lyrically, while also being a pleasant listen production-wise. Ultimately, Milo continues his foray into abstract hip-hop, sounding better and better as he goes.
