A serious and ambitious album, the follow-up to the widely-acclaimed Between The Heart And the Synapse is an altogether more claustrophobic and difficult affair but ultimately a more rewarding one too. Those who stick with the somewhat homogenous but totally entrancing soundscapes to the end will agree; the climax of the closer, amid all the weight that's come before it, is a pay-off worth revisiting time and time again. The lyrics are incredible, the "progressive post-hardcore" musicality enthralling and the structure is undeniably superb. A must-hear.

Not as powerful and energetic as BtHatS but after a few listens this album really grew on me. Original and atmospheric musically, with refreshingly well written lyrics and excellent use of duel-vocals. It did bug me that the reviews i read were all pretty negative, claiming The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi was a step in the wrong direction. This is still a very strong album in my opinion.

A great album that got unfairly criticized for simply being "different" from the band's equally stellar debut. Fans of Between The Heart...will likely identify with songs like Oubliette (Disappear) and Smoke and Mirrors, because they accurately reflect the more energetic feel of the band's debut. However, The Earth Sings... also has plenty of atmosphere to go around, with A Realization of the Ear and Pale Blue Dot conjuring lush soundscapes and fantastic vocals. The lyrics are as poignant and beautiful as ever (check out "The Salesman... for some awesome narrative touches), the production is flawless, and the band prove that the loss of one of their key members isn't enough to stop the music. Sure, there are a few duds (Wanderers and Music of the Spheres lack a clear payoff and point entirely), The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi shows off the band's diversity and tact in a truly uplifting way.

Great CD. Excellent progression and maturity of sound. The adaptation though losing a key member was very well done. If you liked the first CD and are looking for something slightly more prog, this is for you.

I got this from Merchnow yesterday and I must say I'm dissapapointed. It's....different. Definitly not like BtHatS. I don't know I'll give it another listen tonight after work see if it'll grow on me.

Uncanny that this dropped in 2007. Far surpasses anything made decades later by the likes of Chiodos, Pierce The Veil, In Fear and Faith at the helm. What an unbelievable precedent set. I have to owe everything to this record. All my favorite post hc moments were inspired by this.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it. This is one of the greatest albums I've listened to. The themes, the sonic presence, the production values, I could go on. There might not be a more perfect listening experience. Mi Fa Mi is a concept album not based on a story but rather on ideas. Misery, Famine, and back to Misery. 'There's no place like home' but once you get there a 'craving grows fiercer, and fiercer' for something more. It's a concept that might not be anything new yet somehow becomes refreshing. Other albums with such lofty goals can get overbearing and therefore becomes hard to listen to unless you are ultimately prepared for it.
I've kind of soured on the band itself, especially after the cringe worthy attempt to garner
some hype for the re-release by fooling fans that they were getting back together, but
there's no denying how good this album is. I've been searching 5+ years for something better
than this and honestly, I haven't found anything that comes close.

What's new in this? I bought this after listening to Earth Swallows something and the rest of it was straight down into mediocrity. A bunch of reused hooks and choruses. Ugh. I think they might listen to Steven Wilson too much. At least he's original and quite good.
