Sure, Coheed shows maturity here but at the expense of what made them unique in the first place.
They've stripped what little prog elements were left in their most recent output and opted for a
much more straightforward (ie. less interesting) approach to songwriting. The production is bland.
The instrumentation is bland. And for the first time ever, I was left feeling bored by a Coheed
and Cambria album.

i have strange feelings about this record - random tracks sound pretty bad and uninspiring but when you listen to the album front to back it is very cohesive and tight.rAnyway not as good as The Afterman (not mentioning the first three records) but pretty cool.

Despite an underwhelming first impression, The Color Before the Sun has, with repeated listens, grown into a compelling and fully realized Coheed album - ironically with its non-concept serving as a concept of its own. Intimate, personal, honest, this record finds Claudio finally engaging directly with the audience instead of by proxy through characters, and it results in a refreshing change of lyrical content. It would be better with more consistency as there are clearly better and worse songs here, but overall what they've accomplished with such a concise effort is impressive.

New prog outfit Coheed and Cambria have opted to play it safe on their latest full-length album - and all things considered, the results are totally fine. By Coheed standards, The Color Before the Sun is on the simplistic side as well as being noticeably poppier than usual. However, the band manages to still sound enjoyable throughout much of the record, even with a couple duds ("Young Love" and "You've Got Spirit, Kid" aren't worth coming back to, to be frank). It's nothing unique or flawless, but I'll gladly take it for what Claudio Sanchez and company decided to tackle. Angel recommends: "Eraser," "Colors," "Atlas," "The Audience," and "Peace To the Mountain".

Surprisingly loved this. Didn't like the first 2 singles at all, but they work within the album. Island, Atlas, Colors, rThe Audience, Peace to the mountain and Young Love are my faves.

So far I've only heard the crappy leak version. I think its an interesting change in sound. I can see how fans might have wanted a harder prog album but there are a lot of great songs on here. Island, Eraser, and Atlas are my favorite songs so far.

Well, It's a Coheed album. So that alone makes it pretty decent, but it's pretty much a snoozefest. Though there are good tracks, I feel as though it never really kicks it into a higher gear, save for perhaps "Atlas"rEnjoyable, but I hope next time around they bring more energy.
