Drugs'n'depression told by a popstar: yes BUT! this time he accompanies his druggy tales with an apt af hazy atmosphere. Not that previous albums didn't offer cloudy beats, but now said beats seem to follow Miller down a, dare I say, more intelligent path. No beat feels cliche, and the same can be said about Miller's lyrics or delivery - the epic 7-minutes long "Perfect Circle / God Speed" clearly epitomizing this change: he could not have crafted such a track before. Even the trap tracks (eg "When In Rome") slap. Truly a step-up in every respect, damn shame he did not seem to know albums could be less than 70 minutes long.

mac still has that monotone voice but he's bringing more flows, lots of energy and dope bars this time around, quickly making me forget about he's more obvious flaws. i'm not a fan of him yet but this is a damn solid project, easily his best one to date. a tad too long, though! 3.5

That's not a yawn you're hearing - that's the sound of thousands of hip-hop fans reluctantly leaning forward in their seats. After a rocky start as the face of early 2010s frat rap, Mac Miller became the most surprisingly intriguing name in rap after the critical success of Watching Movies With The Sound Off. While nothing on GO:OD AM quite reaches the heights of its predecessor, it stands as a strong opening statement as Mac enters the major label phase of his career.
