On Behind the Devil's Back, the fourth studio album by British post-hardcore crusaders Fightstar, your ass will be kicked nearly all the way up an exaggerated mountain with this record, and then they'll bring a tree to life and have it pulverize your ears. Fightstar's 2015 full-length release breathes personality and a balanced amalgamation of melody and savagery; moreover, the album warrants repeated listens because it's just too damn entertaining. I instantly fell in love with the synth work, while the vocals shared between Charlie Simpson and Alex Westaway have this unyielding kick to them. These people are a fascinating lot, without any shadow of a doubt.

Album of the year, hands down. Only gripe is that "Titan" should have had a longer outro and "Dive" should
have brought the chorus around one last time instead of bowing out so early.

Wow. Arrived a day early and I'm so glad it did. It's a lot more Deftones sounding but both heavy and melodic as hell.
Loving the addition of a layer of synths, it adds to the texture. First album I've listened to and loved from start to finish
in a while

Sounding off because I accidentally clicked the wrong number on the ratings dropdown box -_-rEither way this is a really enjoyable album, coming from someone who was never particularly a fan of Fightstar, with some beautiful lush textures as well as crushing riffs. Charlie Simpson does a good job on vocals. And yeah blah blah hopefully that's enough words to change my rating.

After 2 full listens I can safely say this is the best stuff fightstar have ever released.
Highlights are Titan, Animals, More Human than Human, Sink with Snakes. The synth are a pleasant
addition to fightstar, as are the obvious deftones influences. Best album this year.

The mixture of genres is interesting, but many of the parts within a specific genre are rather bland and have been overdone elsewhere, particularly the choruses.

A confident, solid rock record. I wish the choruses had more bite ("Sink with the Snakes") and some of the more overtly poppy moments lose me ("Overdrive"). Nonetheless, tracks like "Sharp Tongue," "More Human Than Human," and "Dive" are fantastic, and Charlie Simpson's vocals are as good as ever.

Don't believe the 4.5 / 5.0 scores. That's not to say this is a BAD release--hardly the case--but it's not transcendent or
innovative or anything. This is some seriously excellent hard rock / metal-esque music, nothing more, but definitely
worth your time if you dig that sort of thing.

Having heard the whole album (full review http://www.rocksins.com/reviews/fightstar-behind-the-
devils-back/), there is honestly nothing wrong with it. It takes influence from all the old albums
and their other projects: The poppier moments hark back to Charlie's natural ability to write
hooks in Busted, the heavier moments remind one of the darker moments of "One Day Son" and "Be
Human", the electronics take a lot from Gunship, and all that thrown in with pure prog moments and
it just creates the ultimate Fightstar album. Some people may be unhappy at the lack of a
"Damocles" moment, but with tracks like Titan taking that heaviness and throwing in a healthy dose
of melody, they're not really missed.
