Return to form. The bluesy and experimental feel really puts this record above it's predecessor. 'Killing Time' and 'Blood' are two of the best City and Colour tracks to date.

One of the best albums of 2015 I've heard. Very expressive and atmospheric with the vocals being the strongest element of the record. The music is smooth, light, diverse, up-tempo at times-melancolic at others, simple and straightforward. I love the way it combines elements of prog ("Woman"), blues ("Killing Time"), country ("Map of The World") and also the flow in the tempos which never remains constant but it's cohesive to perfection. Recommendations: "Wasted Love", "Killing Time", "Northern Blues", "Woman", "If I Should Go", "Runaway", "Mizzy C"

"the chances that this album is just a misstep on Green's part are high." - Me, on The Hurry And The Harm. Well, someone better pick up the phone, because I friggin called it! In all seriousness though, Dallas Green has definitely improved since his last album, adding a distinct blues influence and still possessing his unmistakable voice. The songwriting has improved, as evidenced by the catchiness of "Mizzy C", "Killing Time", and "Wasted Love", as well as the structure and atmosphere of tracks like "Woman" and "Blood". The album starts pretty melancholy, but picks up the mood as it goes along. That said, it is still one of Green's darkest projects, and definitely his darkest under the City And Colour moniker. Some longwindedness hurts songs, especially when the formula doesn't vary too much, but it's still a refreshing listen, and it's a good reminder that Green is back on track.

It's up there with Little Hell for sure, and definitely a better follow up to that album than Hurry & the Harm,
imo. This will probably be my Winter 2015 album and get bumped to a 4.5 eventually.
