I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

This album is, essentially, the sound of Wilco deciding, for better or for worse, not to give a fuck. Proof: They released it for free; it's fucking called Star Wars; it has a fucking cat on the cover. Most of these songs are quick and fun, with ra lot of ideas for their runtimes. Overall, the album does sound like a bit of a retread, but with nine albums now under their belt (not to mention the Mermaid Avenue albums, and, on Jeff Tweedy's part, a solo(ish) album and the four-album rUncle Tupelo run), this is no surprise. But Wilco don't give a fuck, so we might as well enjoy this for what it is: a short and sweet sampler of all things Wilco. This won't be one for the history books, but not every album needs to be.

Short and kinda fun record from a not-so-fun band - woah!!! Their alt-country linings clash with indie rock shenanigans and an occasional spacey vibe - fun!!

As to be expected from a sporadically dropped freebie whose cover is adorned with a cat painting, this is a fun little let-loose romp, exposed right from the spastic and cryptically acronymic get-go and clinched by the casual tinny-guitar tunefulness that follows. The calmly at-ease attitude revitalizes the spirit as do the squall/squeal-buryings, those tinny guitars sound all sorts of great, they know enough to toss an extended+shimmery ballad-of-sorts in between joke explanation explanations and ceiling tastings. It's trebly-twang goof-rock performed at a professionally erratic level.
