before they were ultra-heavy they were adorable and gothy punky and they had some serious tunes, played without feeling busy. definitely feels like a response to those first two Banshees albums, but so much stuff from this period does that it can't really be a criticism. plus it's just hooks all the way through and Killing Joke's DIY minimal approach stays with me more than the next three albums where they practise being heavy and maximal

I don`t have this record on CD right now, but I can remember it from my old casette, which is somewhere in my friend`s basement maybe... and this is classic for sure! Unrepeatable!

The guitars are scratchy & stark, the bass plods along, the vocalist sounds very British and sings a grand total of like three notes in this demure lisp. Yup, it's post-punk. Pretty uninvolving verse/chorus post-punk with inexpressive blocky guitarwork that makes you question the "post" prefix, though. Mostly acclaimed for influencing very bad genres like industrial metal.
