Low 9 out of 10: Well, holy shit. This record has left me completely speechless. This record is simply Tesseract at their absolute finest to date. The instrumental is incredibly tight, the vocals just absolutely soar, and the production works with Tesseract so well. Man, I'm loving this one a lot.

Finally moved on from using delayed clean guitars in every fucking song. Dan has some phenomenal moments rand everything just seems a little more focussed. rEdit after years:rRecord has become a bit bland, and the production does not help it. The funky and more emotional parts are nice though.

it achieves the sound it shoots for really well, but TesseracT are capable of so much more than pared down radio prog rock. Dystopia into Hexes is a killer one-two punch though

This review perfectly elucidates my thoughts regarding this album. I was very excited to hear it, and after five listens, I am entirely underwhelmed. "Passable" is the perfect word for the album. The musicianship is superb, as always, but the songwriting took a rather significant step backwards. After the intense boundary-pushing on Altered State, I expected a similar push forward on Polaris, or at the very least, a refining of the newly-discovered palette. Honestly, the introduction of the saxophone on "Calabi-Yau" had me hoping for even more jazz-fusion experimentation, but instead, we got something a bit more akin to muzak. That's probably an overly harsh statement, but I am definitely disappointed. Maybe it will grow on me in time, but I have significant doubts about that. Bummed.

There are a few beautiful moments here and there ('Tourniquet' is a standout track for me personally) but overall TesseracT seem to be struggling to mesh their textures well enough together for the climaxes of their songs to be released properly.

Long have I awaited this release. After the previous albums this phenomenal band has released who could not await such a gift? I recently ordered a collection of books written by the great author HP Lovecraft and in these stories I saw that he wrote a story entitled "Polaris", I knew something in the stars had to have cast that upon me. Let's begin on the details; this album provides a feeling of emotion that is indescribable, with Daniel Tompkins back behind the mic its a valsalva maneuver compelled auditory experience. I feel only he is the one with the abilities to give this band the purest of form they strive for. Ashe was phenomenal and he also delivered an amazing sound, but something about Daniel gives the vibe of belonging. As for the music, The opening track has an almost 'Fellsilent' feel to it, with a dark atmosphere and groovy nature. The bass and guitar tones in this are beyond perfect, groovy punches and catchy riffs enough to probably get a room of ravers dancing. I can't say a lot of negative details about this album, save one. I wish it was longer.
